First Walk & Leash

    Congratulations on your new pup!

I just wanted to add, try to never pull on the leash (on purpose or by accident) because once is enough to make them leash resistant forever

There's really no need to walk such a little wee one, and she probably hasn't had all her immunizations yet anyway, has she?

I would start walking everyday, at very short distances....this is a perfect time to start.  I put my dogs on leash the day I get them and start teaching them leash manners.

It's a good idea to keep them off public areas until fully immunized.

Actually, I start my dogs in puppy classes as early as 6-8 weeks.  Missing this crucial socialization period by not taking the dog out in public places can be detrimental to the dogs overall development.

Also, you should probably look for a harness for her when you do start to walk her, as small dogs are prone to tracheal problems from collars.

I would start with a puppy collar...it allows for more control on walks.  Just be gentle...

I'd also absolutely recommend a harness. The spine of such a small dog (or say the spines of all young dogs) are too fragile to use a collar in my opinion. Why take risks unnecessarily.
