    All this time I've been thinking it's been an agression issue. I've never had an acounter like that before and so I just freaked, didn't mean do but I did. Giz does get along with other dogs she's known as a pup, like Georga and my parents dogs but I've never introduced new dogs to her.

    Yes, I think I'll get some Direct Stop for my next walks.

    Wow well thats pleasantly surprising, too bad you had a large scare but thats great news. I wish there was a way to get the word out in your area that you'd like to socialize your dog if anyone was willing to use their dog as a test or bonding time. I know if I lived by you I would!

    Xebby - is it possible that Giz is trying to protect YOU? 
    I only ask because I've been going thru this with my dog, HoneyBear. 
    Does she ever see herself as a little 'Alpha' when it comes to her relationship with you?

    I don't want to burst your bubble (humans sooo want to think their dogs are protective of them), but it is more often the case that the dog is protecting itself!  Some dogs do protect members of the pack, but the likelihood that a fearful dog would do that is unlikely -more probably, he is just putting up the proverbial "best defense is a good offense".

    He put a prong collar on him, gave him a command that Gandolf knew, Gandolf didn't perform, Gandolf got a hard correction with the prong and Gandolf bit the trainer!


    No kidding!  I'd have bit the guy too.  Prong collars in the hands of someone that hasn't been trained to use them correctly are very very dangerous.  I've seen a dog that became aggressive because of the misuse of a prong.  These collars can be good training aids but only if used properly.
