Adult dog developed new fears while in training

Kind of reading between the lines...because of privacy reasons, I have to be very careful what I put out on the internet for everyone to see.  What matters in this situation is:

    Before Training:

    • Adult Dog
    • Fairly hard temperment, not soft at all
    • Well adjusted to shelter visitors and dogs
    • Enjoys meeting new people
    • No fear issues when going to new places or encountering new things
    • Daily socialization and playtime

    After Training:

    • Avoids approaching new people
    • Fearful of many random things
    • Extreme fear of certain, completely random objects

So, you've got the timeline but you still don't know why or how.  You asked earlier if this was normal and I'm pretty sure you know it's not.  Hope the owner can work with the dog and build back it's confidence.

I just wanted some outside opinions since I am very close to the situation.  The dog is well cared for and he is in no danger at all.  He will be well loved.

How or why doesn't matter to me so much now.  It won't be happening again, that I can promise.

This happens all too often with board and trains. Most are bad news. There are VERY few that are humane and even then, the owner isn't there to supervise what their dog is going through so who really knows what will happen. What's the appeal of board and trains anyways? Why do people get a dog if they don't want to be involved in the dog's learning process? And why just send the dog off with a stranger? Very sad.
