is this GSD a good prospect for schutzhund?

I wouln't want to kill any one (thats why I have a dog) Also I plan to train my dog. I just wanted an expert opinion on which one to work with.

However I appreciate your input and will bear it in mind

I understand the question but I don't think any of us, even experts in GSD or Schutzhund, can really weigh in without at the very least observing the dog.  When I get e-mails from people wanting to have their dog evaluated for our SchH club, it doesn't matter what they say or don't say, they need to bring the dog out for evaluation at minimum before we will even begin to guess whether the dog is a good working prospect.

Thanks lies, For you advice, which was pretty much what I figured myself. I have been taking her with me and walking her more. And my gut tells me she'll be fine. I just need to bond with her, and brush upn my handling techniques.

I agree that the bond is really the most important aspect.  Even if she possesses all the best qualities genetically, she cannot be expected to work for you let alone protect if there is not a mutual companionship and respect.  My best dog Nikon is super responsive to me, but if my husband even says "sit" he just looks at him like "who are you?"

LOL  I can relate, Thats the way my other two dog s look at me all the time, They brought me a possum last night, that was "playing possum" of course, I had to pick it up by the tail and toss it over the fense....eeeewww....

All your dogs a beautiful...My favorite is Coke. Is Nikon the one lying on the grass with you in the picture?

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes Nikon is the one in my avatar.  Coke is my "heart dog", he's totally different from the GSDs but kind of refreshing to go home to a lazy, no drive dog when you spend 7 hours training intense, high drive GSDs!

    • Gold Top Dog
Yes he looks kind of unconcerned. but I bet he is a good boy...What breedis he?
    • Gold Top Dog

I'm not really sure.  He acts like a low energy Golden Retriever.  He's taller than my GSDs but weighs a little less (65lbs).  Sometimes he acts like a Great Pyrenees and his mother was mostly white so maybe.  His mother was a stray and we got him from a rescue.

He's georgeous...In his own kind of way

Wow, I would have never guessed he was that small. By seeing him in pictures, he looks like a humongous dog!

Kind of off topic, but kind of not with the way you are talking about GSD's prey drive.....I felt bad for this GSD I saw in the training class that was after mine last night. He was still young, probably under a year old and two dogs in my class were playing and worked up the GSD into a barking frenzy...the owner kept jerking on his leash to get him to "be quiet" and the only thing I kept thinking was the dog was acting like a GSD would. I hate it when people get a dog and dont understand anything about their breed. If that was me, I would have just walked the dog out of the room instead of yelling at him and pulling on his throat.
