How to stop seperation anxiety before it starts?

Yes, my dog is the only dog in this world that behaves because of them, any other dog in the whole planet Cool

I will not argue that Cesar Millan's methods will never produce 'results'. Though what one considers results can differ. From what I have seen, usually 'results' is more a lack of ALL behavior produced from the over-use of punishment. Not from a dog being taught what IS acceptable, and/or that he no longer needs to feel insecure about a situation or stimulus. So again, I am not arguing that Cesar's methods cannot produce results, or that it is impossible to see an improvement (though one who views a dog punished into not offering any behaviors as improved is ignorant at best). What I am arguing is that we have a choice. We have better options that using dominance theory (that has been proven incorrect), punishments, unnecessary aversives, corrections, alpha rolls, and highly physical methods that the average dog owner cannot do and is upset at seeing. It has been shown (thanks to Karen Pryor) that dogs trained with clickers learn quicker, retain information longer, are eager, happy, and willing to learn, and are much quicker to learn new behaviors. Why choose to train with a method that does not produce that?

Thats just a personal opinion of yours and Karen Pryor

Right, so you are choosing to use methods that have been proven to be less efficient and unnecessary. Why do you choose to follow a person who's methods (particularly that of dominance theory and being alpha) have been scientifically proven incorrect or less efficient? It's now about how you feel, it's about actual results. That's just utter nonsense.

Right, so like i said before, my dog looks pretty well behaved

I joined this forum in 2006, i have discussed the same topic dozens of times (you can use the search option), I have involved in threads that are 35+ pages long about why, why, why. Ultimately we all (with or against) end up doing what we always did (except ron2, i think he actually changed his mind)

It turned pretty ugly sometimes but around 2008 we all realized (except spiritdogs) that if your methods work for you, and my methods work for me then no matter how many videos or researches you or i bring; if it's not broken, we won't fix it

*Removed by moderator* But, I don't recall ever saying "if it's not broken, we won't fix it" - over the years, my positions on dog training and behavior have evolved.  I'm always interested in learning new things, and will adjust my toolbox and methods based on what I learn.  However, I do not ascribe to anyone who thinks that serious study comes in the form of a pop icon's TV show.   If you can show me research that supports your positions, fine.  If not, then you don't have a basis for even saying that "it's not broken," because it is.

That's wonderful of you. I have discussed this topic hundreds of times with hundreds of people. Having been through the discussions before doesn't mean I am not going to change my mind, and it doesn't mean I am no longer going to argue my point.

*Removed by Moderator* I feel bad for dogs whose owner's ascribe to Cesar Millan's dominance theory, punishment-riddled, training mantra. I feel bad for them because they deserve better than that. And that is why I am going to continue to argue it.

I just do not understand why, WHY, you are so vehemently against keeping up with science and real animal behavior. Why you are so against keeping yourself educated for your dog's sake.

A video shows an adult dog doing an alpha roll and you deny it. A video shows you a pack of dogs hunting together and you speculate that probably wont happen with regular dogs. A guy shares his observations with dogs for more than 20 years and you give excuses to not believe him

The "researches" you provide prove that they base their observations of techniques performed incorrectly (and we are not going to talk about each one, you can use the search button for that) some of them sometimes to sell their own services.

Heck, my dog does not need a muzzle to go to the vet like someone i know. Seriously, why are you wasting your time trying to prove your point with me if you haven't done it in the last 3 years?

I don't really understand what you are saying here. I do not remember a video of a dog alpha rolling another dog. Am I missing something?

And observing dogs on his parent's property before (illegally) immigrating into America to work in a grooming parlor does not a dog behavior expert make. And I don't recall what "researches" I have provided that base their observations on techniques performed incorrectly.

My dog doesn't need a muzzle at my vet either. What's your point?

Why would you? I never yell at him, scare him, hurt him, cause unnecessary discomfort, or try to force him to fit into a theory on dominance that is untrue. He gets all the necesseties in life, gets training, is well behaved and unfearful in just about any environment, and is a happy confident dog.   *removed by moderator*
