freaky
Tonight it's storming, which means Rupert goes into a state of shivering, drooling panic and needs to be near a human being mainly me for the entire time. He's actually getting better... I vaccumed earlier so all my furniture is still up on my bed, including my computer chair, so I sat down just...

When swimming with your dog
Does anyone swim with their dog(s)? I'd like to start swimming with Lily but she comes too close and claws me. How can I teach her to keep away but at a close distance? It would be nice to actually be able to swim with her. I've tried keeping her at arms length and saying "away" while...

ball-drive
Whats the fastest method to teach a dog to retrieve a ball. (increase ball drive) I have new dogs every month with NO BALL DRIVE!, sometimes i wonder if they would chase a rabbit! I need to get their focus off me and on to the ball. I work with all breeds all ages and i need to develope strong ball...

Dealing with aggressive/mouthy puppy
So I have Luna a 12-13 week old pup (possibly older) as a foster. She is a well behaved puppy except for that aggression issue she has. I don't know if this is aggression or not all I know is that when she plays with a toy or a ball she will try to "kill" whatever is in her mouth and when...

playing too rough at the dog park
My new dog trixie, i've only had her for about a month is an amazing, calm, very well tempered dog. She usually listens very well and comes back to me when I call. When we are at the dog park she feeds off the energy of the other dogs. I always let her smell through the fence outside before we go...

Multiple dogs off leash
What are your experiences with walking multiple dogs off lead? With Kes' recall getting much better recently and the long weekend ahead the thought has crossed my mind to take the furry four-leggeds hiking, but I'm wondering what it's like to go with several dogs off lead at once. I've...

PETRIFIED of thunderstorms- help!
The entire month of June and the begining of July all we've had is rain/overcast and thunderstorms. The dogs, for the most part, have been fine. I know Molson is a little concernced with the t-storms, but he hasn't done anything extreme (like hiding, shaking, etc). Apollo and Patty don't...

Hylands Calms
Does anyone know if Hylands Calms is the same at Calms Forte? I went to GNC and thought this is was the product because I couldn't remember the exact name. I was going to give my dog a tablet along with Valeian. If it is along the same line, how much would I give a 55lb dog?

For Discussion: Dog Packs and Dog Interaction
A while back there was a thread on another forum I frequent asking SchH people if they allow their dogs to interact with other dogs and under what circumstance. Someone said something that I've never read before, but now it seems so obvious. She said that her dogs are all fine with each other, and...

How to cure a runner?
Hey, I have a 2 1/2 year old male Mini Schnauzer. He's a notorious runner. Any time the front door opens, he's gone. He even got hit by a car once, but luckily he only ended up with a couple bruises and a small cut on his lip. I've tried really hard to get him to stop running. But once...

How do I train Apollo...?
I've been crate training Apollo because we have several trips planned for July and August and Apollo (and Patty and Molson, already crate trained) can come he just needs to be crated when we're not around (which should be very, very rarely). We've been crate training for about a month...

Is there any way to tell...
how big he'll get? We got Finn on May 27 and he was 26 pounds. The shelter said he was 4 1/2 months old. On June 11 we went to the vet and he weighed 31 pounds. The vet said he wasn't even 4 months old yet. Today he weighs almost 36 pounds. My guess is he's a little over 4 months...

What am I doing wrong?
I love the clicker as a marker since my voice isn't fast enough. BUT! I don't think I'm using it right. When I get the clicker out, the dogs just sit and wait for me to tell them a command. I want them to offer behaviors.. So what am I doing wrong?! They know what it means and I use it when...

Breaking Habits
In my way of thinking, the majority of training is creating habits, and a lot of behavioural problems are bad habits. Someone on another forum has a problem with a dog that is bullying other dogs he lives with. Things like standing over them, going into their kennels and kicking them out or preventing...

Jack is Driving Me CRAZY.....
He is just rude around food of any kind. He is VERY food motivated. Like, when we were going to obedience class I would feed him right before class and use kibble instead of actual training treats because anything "better' than kibble excited him so much he had trouble concentrating. If...

What happened?!
Dipper is 2 years old and he potty trained fairly easy but I went wrong some where and now, I cannot seem to get back on track. I went into Madison's room and the floor around her bed post was soaked through with urine. Dipper is lifting his leg and peeing in house . He goes outside on a regular...

New housemate issues
Joey and I are moving in with James and Zeus this weekend. For a little while, I've been taking Joey with me to James' house so the boys can get used to each other. For the most part, they ignore eachother. Zeus doesn't seem to mind Joey being in the house meaning he doesn't act aggressive...

On-leash pottying (ALOK)
Misha's going home with me until aDorkable gets back home, but he has an *ahem* issue. He's recently decided that he can't poop on-leash. He had never pooped in the house, so no one has ever yelled at him or chastized him for pooping anywhere. On vacation, he managed to hold it for three...

Low Pressure Sheepdog Training - Videos - Fixed Link
I thought these might interest you all, since I've talked a good bit about my goals to incorporate less pressure in my training methods. This trainer is someone I've tried to emulate for a while. She's put several videos up which show the progress of a young dog from 8 months to 22 months...

Three minute abandonment for CGC...
Nikon did his first CGC today (actually took it a week early since we are in a show next weekend). I entered the class mainly to work on his control in "tighter" environments (indoor, multiple dogs, working around reactive dogs, etc) and did not expect much from the test but he passed 9/10...
