    Holistique Blendz or CORE

While I wait for the results of Lexi and Darby's allergy tests, I've been considering my options.  I have always preferred feeding kibble+ homecooked toppers (meat and veggies, yogurt or kefir).  If nothing else works for them then I will homecook (currently they're getting turkey and potato but I'm not seeing much in he way of improving Lexi's intense itching)

Anyone try it? It says it's to be used with additional meat, which I like to do. Guess I'llhave to wait and see!

I happened to grab a bag of reduced fat wellness CORE yesterday and the girls went wild over just a tidbit taste.  Anyone have luck with these?

Years ago I fed the original formula and had issues with struvite crystals in my bichons.

I have not used Holistique Blendz, but have used other Solid Gold formulas with good results.

Remember that diet changes can take months to see good results...that's why food trials are usually 6-8 weeks long.

Hope the allergy test gives you an idea to make their food choices easier :)

I saw the title, and went, "WHOA! What a difference!" LOL.

My girls are getting low protein kibble, with  meat toppers, and doing ridiculously well. Ena is eating Precise Light, and Emma gets Hills Z/D.  They get Tripette, or baked fish, or crock potted meat, on top. They also get a trachea chip, or bully stick, or sweet potato chew every evening. Both are house dogs, who get to go out several times a week. They do obedience, and get to run, play, swim quite a bit, so they're moderately active. They both look stunning. Great muscle tone, healthy skin and coat, teeth look fabulous. I'm really, really happy with this combo, for them.

    jennie,

That is how I prefer to feed as well. If it Get a higher fat/protein kibble then they tend to load up on weight. I like the idea of Holistique Blendz because they say you should add meat to it, or as they call it 'basis plus.'  Will have to see but that could be one option.

Also if chicken, brn rice, oatmeal, etc aren't an issue I could try them on petguard again. Or....  LOL

I definitely have never been one to just toss a bowl of kibble at them, I like to add extras.

I am not patient to wait for these results LOL

I can't just put down a bowl of kibble, either. That would be too easy! They aren't the least bit picky, I just can't handle it, LOL. I am not a huge fan of the high protein kibbles, to begin with, and when you start adding stuff? Meh. Too easy to overdo things, especially for dogs who have minimal needs (Emma, with her liver problems, and Ena, with her youbetterwatchit waistline).

Be aware that both those options are very heavy in potential allergens. Grains, vegetables, dairy, eggs, and meat all contain proteins and HB and Core both have some prime suspects (poultry and barley). Is canned not an option? There are some excellent grain free choices available that stay away from the biggies. Look for lamb, pork, fish, tripe, venison, and other game meats.

Canned could be an option. It costs a bit more but would have more moisture and fewer grains, you're rigt. Going to look into that now too.
