    Flapjacks

There are COUNTLESS flapjack recipes out there, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get them right.  I used to make lovely ones, but now they are always too dry and crumbly or too hard, or overdone and black round the edges or so underdone and soft that they fall to bits.  ARGH!  Another two batches failed today.  Sad

Does anyone have any good flapjack recipes?  What do you think is good about your flapjack recipe - what is the texture of it like when it's done (moist, chewy, sticky?)

The best thing about mine is that they come from IHOP. Embarrassed

I use AllRecipes.com sometimes.  I used this recipe about a year ago and it worked pretty well.  Getting my mouth watering just thinking about it!

    Hope this helps.  Good luck.

umm, in England Flapjacks are something else indeed.

http://www.scottishrecipes.co.uk/flapjacks.htm (for show and tell, I do not use this recipe)

I am going to say that if your using the same recipe, then either the quality of the ingredients has changed or the way your cooking them has, like your oven, or even the dish your using. I would double check to make sure your oven is consistant in it's heating and your using the same type of baking dish, then check your ingredients. If that does not come up with a workable treat, then try a new recipe.

If you want to share your recipe I would be willing to play with it. Maybe a few other's would too.

I can't remember the exact quantities, but you know what, I think it's the greaseproof paper im using... it's since I had to buy a new roll and it was slightly different. I've since heard you're not meant to use gpp at all.... and another tip I've heard is you are supposed to subs 1/3 of the golden syrup for treacle to improve the taste and texture....

OK - so I guess on this side of the pond flapjacks is another word for pancakes and over there it means something more like a kind of  bar cookie?  More along the lines of brownies or rice krispie bars?

Chuffy, pm me what you do to your recipe if  you want, I know you said you dont measure and I am not afraid of that. I work well with a pinch of this and handful of that!

Depending on what I have on hand I will play with it a bit this week.
