Canned salmon = awesome!

    Canned salmon = awesome!

Rascal has chronically dry skin/fur - nothing devastating, but never that soft shine like I would like to see, and dandruff problems in winter.

I tried fish-based kibbles, I tried fish oil, I tried fish oil and vitamin E, I tried salmon oil, I tried cooked eggs, I tried raw eggs, I tried sardines. Nothing seemed to work at all.

Finally I found my miracle product - canned calmon! Either cans from the store, or Wellness makes a line of kibble toppers - "95% Salmon" or something that is also excellent. A half teaspoon or so of canned salmon in his kibble once or twice a day, and 2 weeks later Rascal's coat is noticeably softer! It's amazing!

So salmon oil didn't work, but salmon meat did. Go figure!

Just thought I'd share my discovery, in case anyone else is contemplating some canned salmon kibble toppers :)

P.S. - It makes Rascal's breath smell like poo, but he gobbles it up quite enthusiastically.

I got Joker on mackeral(Truley says it's the same as salmon but cheaper). He's mildly allergic to chicken so I decided to quit with the chicken and try fish. It so far hasnt broke him out and he loves it!! But yeah the stinky breath not so great.

I buy canned salmon for my two!  They absolutely LOVE it.  Mystery Tim who doesn't go crazy over many foods, just starts hopping up and down when I mix the canned salmon in!   His coat is beautiful (if I do say so myself hehehe). :)

You may be seeing the difference between fresh and store bought. With the small amount you'd be giving Rascal, quality is all-important. So is balance. It's so important, that I give Zhi (8 pounds) a capsule with balanced 3-6-9, formulated for kids, so a single capsule is exactly enough. It's a Nordic product so it's top quality.

Another thing to try, that might have less of the stinky breath factor, is canned green tripe. Tripett's lamb tripe is the one that Zhi does best on. It's got the 3-6-9 balance, again, that seems to be vital for skin and coat. Tripe is nastier smelling than canned fish, but has less of an "aftertaste." Actually, none - tripe seems to have a cleaning effect on their mouths - at least here. Wink

Here, too! Somehow, eating that poo-scented yuck freshens their breath. I think it's because it's so great for digestion.
