    Please help!  I'm a new "Blue" mommy and I'm bringing my baby home in September and I have been researching what to feed him and I'm soooo confused!  I have narrowed it down to Eagle Pack Holistic and Taste of the Wild.  Now that the GDL has "unendorsed" Eagle Pack, like most of you, I'm not wondering if it doesn't have anything to do with the product itself.  My boy has the most beautiful blue, shiny coat and I would like to keep it that way, along with making sure he is nutritionally healthy.  Also, I want him to have healthy stools.  Should I give supplements, as well, or will the food contain what he needs?  The girl I got him from says she feeds her dogs Taste of the Wild and they do great on it.  Research says that puppy food should not be used for this breed do to rapid growth issues, but Eagle Pack makes a large breed puppy food.  I am a first-time Dane owner, so any advice would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum! Smile Dog food can be really confusing and there are almost no absolutes. Eagle Pack Holistic is one of my favorite brands (I rotate for variety and the other foods I feed are Fromm, Before Grain and Orijen). I've always had really good results with Eagle Pack. I'm feeding the Duck & Oatmeal formula now and there's no difference at all in the food. The ingredients are exactly the same. What it appears to me is that the GDL had a falling out with the Eagle Pack company. There's a topic about that on here:

    I don't know about feeding Taste of the Wild to a large breed puppy. One of the most important factors for those puppies is the calcium/phosphorus levels. It isn't listed on Taste of the Wild's website. My first choice for a large breed puppy would be Eagle Pack Holistic for large & giant breed puppies. Taste of the Wild is a new food. Eagle Pack has years of experience and a lot of research making food for large breed dogs. As far as supplements, I'm really not sure, but I would be wary with a large breed puppy.
