    Useless American dogs ;-)

Justin, the "useless American dog", went from the show ring to sheep yesterday, and he had an absolute BLAST!  The instinct tester loved him and said she'd be proud to have him on sheep.  She wasn't as sure about my German boy, who was extremely pushy.

    Justin:

    Strauss for comparison:

VERY different dogs in both style and personality

Oh, and Strauss managed not to kill or injure any sheep.  But notice how much more "in your face" the worker had to be with Strauss, as opposed to Justin's comparatively more laid back style

I like the comparison of lines.  My breeder owns a 12x HGH, herding class BSZS Siegerin bitch and she is a hard, drivey bitch, probably the toughest bitch we have right now.  Our TD has worked her and says she is every bit as solid as a working line male, and she is not even titled in SchH (but received training in order to be Koer'd).

They certainly did have a blast :D  Was very interesting to see the two of them working

Thanks for sharing the videos - instinct tests are are always interesting to see. Both of your boys certainly seem to have instinct. Both also seemed a bit stressed and nervous about the whole thing too, which could just be due to the small pen size and/or just needing more exposure to stock. It would be very interesting to see how they both develop if you pursue training them for herding.

This is a good site about herding with GSDs, although you've probably seen it?: http://www.german-shepherdherding.com/answers.htm

I really enjoyed seeing the videos of Strauss running agility too. Always nice to see fast GSDs playing agility :)
