    Thoughts?

Ummm, maize is just a fancy word for corn.  So, yuck.  Mostly corn and or rice.

    Thumbs down.

    • Gold Top Dog

I wouldn't feed a food with corn as the first ingredient, but that's me.  What is it?

    • Gold Top Dog
    Very low protien too.
    • Gold Top Dog

Yikes- 70% corn? No thank you.

It's Burns.  My sister feeds it and asked for my opinion but I know NOTHING about nutrition.  She says hers are doing well on it mind you she used to feed Nutro and then switched to Royal Canin and now they're on Burns.  Nutrition is just a giant hole for me to be honest, and I know nothing about any of those foods, except that Nutro USED to be a not-too-bad food, until they changed their ingredients list.  Is she going up the ladder, or down?  Tongue Tied

With 70% corn, I'd say she's missed several rungs on her slide down....

I'll see if I can find the ingredient list for the other two, for comparison, then I can see for myself.... thanks all Smile

Edit - Blimey!  I can't believe she switched from RC to Burns!  The protein content is SO much lower!  Yikes!  I wonder if she even looked at the ingredients before switching?  Mind you, maize is sttill the ifrst ingredient.... and as to the rest it's all French to me.  I will ask her why she switched though.  Maybe it was on recommendation from someone else....

If she's looking for a new food, I can recommend the Arden Grange products.  The Prestige and Premium lines are really very good.  I've switched from Orijen to Arden Grange, which isn't as good as Orijen but has advantages for me that Orijen doesn't.  Lumos came to me on their large breed puppy food and it's easier for me to have both dogs on the same brand, at least while I'm still feeding kibble at all.

Burns is an odd one, really.  I've never seen it as a great food, at all, but it seems to have quite a following.  I've never understood why.

I spoke to her this evening and she was very surprised to hear its actually as not-very-good food-at-all - I mean, for the price, you expect it to be reasonably good.  She stopped feeding Nutro because it stopped being stocked and couldn't keep them on Royal Canin because it disagreed with them.  She picked Burns on the recommendation of a pet shop bod, supported by a friend, a "breeder" and a vet.  I did already mention Arden Grange to her.  After our conversation this evening she has ordered a small bag to see if it suits them.  I wonder if Arden Grange will send me any commission and/or freebies if I tell them about it? Smile

I tried to help someone find a good food in the UK before and it's slim pickings over there.

LOL I actually met some of the Arden Grange people at Crufts this year, they were very accomodating but it probably helped that they knew I'd be giving them some business, that tends to make people friendlier.   Both of my boys are doing well on AG, Ben's on an adult food and Lumos eats their Large Breed Puppy one.  Lumos has never been on anything else so I have no comparison, and Ben's only been on it for about 3 weeks, we've only just finished the switching process, but I'm not actually sure that he's not doing better on this than the Orijen.
