    She ate a whole fish

We were out fishing today and Maya managed to get a hold of a very small bluegill.  She ate the whole thing and seemed to enjoy eating it while she played keep away with us.  Should I be concerned?  Should I induce vomiting?

I would not be concerned. My dogs eat animals all the time, mostly dead ones but I don't think there is anything wrong with a live one.

Mmm...fresh fish.  Good catch girly!  Smile

I wouldn't be too concerned.  Our dogs eat whole fish at least once a week with no issues.

Thanks everyone.  I was just a bit worried about the fish bones.  I know most other bones are ok when raw.  She gets all excited when I go near the fishing pole now.  Maya is a very silly dog.  She ate a worm too Confused

Shouldn't be an issue. Small soft bones like fishes are only a problem potentially going down. Obviously not a problem here. By the way, for future information, NEVER induce vomiting when it's a question of "sharp objects." And call the vet or much better veterinary poison control, in case of substances. Sharp or caustic things can cause much more damage coming up than going through.

Excellent advice. We always take Jessie fishing with us and she's eaten small fish many times and it's never been an issue. I hope Maya doesn't develop Jessie's habit of barking in anticipation when you start fishing. Fortunately, the other fishermen think it's funny and also laugh when she starts digging in the water to find the fish we release.

Youre lucky, Baileys been eating raw for years and i still havent convinced him to eat a whole raw fish yet. Confused

I agree, you're lucky.  Mine will eat fish, but not fresh.  All fish must be buried here for at least 8 hours or so before they are deemed edible...and if he's permitted Crusher will keep his buried overnight and will stay outside guarding it until morning.Ick!
