    Can allergies "vanish"?

Maze has always had adverse reactions to chicken, wheat and grain. But a couple months ago I was feeding them Evo red meat since that's all I had left and didn't want to waste a bag of food and Maze didn't scratch more then usual. She's got dry skin but that's normal for her around this time of year.

I know Evo Red Meat does have chicken in it and yet it did nothing to aggravet (sp?) her allergies.. I'm wanting to try the TOTW praire based but have been leary due to the ingredients but if Maze can handle it, I don't see a problem.

    Advice?

I'm pretty sure that in his book Home-Prepared Dog and Cat Diets, Donald Strombeck DVM claims that some dogs can "heal" from food allergies if you completely avoid exposure for a period of time.  I believe avoidance for six months is what he recommends.

EVO Red Meat does NOT contain chicken---the regular formula EVO does, however (it's a turkey/chicken based food)

Yeah.  EVO RM was one of Ben's "safe" foods.

But the answer is, you can't get over a true allergy, but you can lower your reaction threshold if you avoid it for a while (years rather than months), and also keep overall exposures to other triggers (whether to other allergens or potential irritants like chemicals or smoke or glutens) to a minimum.

Be aware that if it's a true allergy, then repeated exposures will re-activate the body's reaction to it eventually.  Once that happens it's square one.

Ummm..Really cuz when I read the bag, it said it had chicken meal in it. And it caused Maze to break out when I had it has a daily meal. Maybe I just read it wrong.

I dunno what I'm gonna do about the food.. I can't really afford 65$ a bag but if I have no choice, I will.
