What brand dry food do you feed...

    • Gold Top Dog

We feed Cal Natural Chicken Meal & Brown Rice (both the puppy and adult formulas) to the dogs and recently started feeding the cat version to our cats instead of Iams. I appreciate that it has just a few basic ingredients, no wheat, corn, soy, animal by-products or artificial preservatives. The dogs like it, they have good coats and maintain weight easily, and there seems to be less waste (poop) too. We rotate with Canidae if we start to feel the pinch in our wallets or if the dogs seem to be getting of Cal Natural. We're lucky, none of our dogs right now have allergies.

Taste of the Wild Wetlands formula. And Solid Gold WolfKing to mix half and half for Aesop and the squirt.

Everyone likes the food and look great..no dry skin, no itchies, no upset stomachs.

We feed our two Eukanuba Adult Maintenance. It's worked great for both of them (Lucky's ten and he has been on Eukanuba since he was on puppy food, and the vet is constantly amazed at how well he's doing). Misha (aDorkable's Misha) gets Taste of the Wild, loves it and does really well on it. He can switch back and forth between the different flavors without any stomach upset... which works great because he likes the variety.

    • Bronze

One dog gets Innova reduced fat and one gets Natural Balance potato and duck.

Why?  Because they're the foods that each of them thrives on.

I used to rotate almost every bag, but life has been very busy the past few months, and as they've gotten older it seems they do best sticking with one brand/flavor for longer periods of time.  And they do so great on these foods that I'm getting a little hesitant to rotate any more.  In addition to supplements (fish body oil, safflower oil and Vitamin E), they get "extras" daily.  One or more of:  home-cooked doggy stew, yogurt, eggs, canned fish (mackeral or salmon), canned dog food, leftover bits of chicken, etc.

Flint River Ranch Salmon and Sweet Potato, all dogs.  Internet ordering only and the food is dropped shipped from the factory and you need at least 3-5 days in advance of running out of food.  River did horrible on blue buffalo with his IBS.

A limited line of Blue is also available at Tractor Supply stores.  They have the fish & sweet tater, adult and large breed adult.

    • Gold Top Dog

I feed Orijen, rotating between 6 Fresh Fish and Adult.  The dogs love it, and they have great coats and energy.

    • Gold Top Dog

I've been feeding Fromm because I really like the ingredients and the different varieties. I'm planning to switch to Before Grain though, because I'm tired of having to order Fromm online.

Bonnie is on Wellness .  They have a small bit food she does not like the big pieces. lol  I'd like to try one with fish but all these foods have larger pieces.

    • Gold Top Dog

TOTW Pacific(fish version) or Purina Pro Plan Sensitive skin and stomach (also fish).

    • Puppy
I normally have to go to vet to get a special, allergy safe, food from eukanuba. The discussion about expensive vs. cheap dog foods is heated. Here is a very interesting article about it. http://www.poochandme.com/blog/K9-Magazine-Expensive-Pet-Food-Brands-No-Better-Than-Cheap-Pet-Food-.html What do you think?
    • Gold Top Dog

Tootsie is fed Orijen 6 Fresh Fish Adult Formula, with Salmon Oil and Vit. E daily. Along with toppers occasionally of applesauce, sardines in water, mackeral, etc... I also feed Peaches Orijen also, with salmon oil for cats.

I didn't read the article, however, when a food is made of mostly corn, well, it is NOT as good as a food made from quality, human grade ingredients.

My cockers were fed Purina on the vets advice.  We had ear issues, hot spots, you name it.  Once I started learning more on this forum and moved to better quality foods, ear issues, hot spots, etc, went away.

Experience says it all to me, and that's been mine.    And, if I'm feeding 8-10 cups of cheap stuff, vs 2-3 of the more expensive stuff, well, I'm paying MORE for the cheap stuff because I have to buy more of it.  And significantly MORE of the cheap stuff is coming out the other end and I have to deal with that.......naw, I'll stick with the good stuff.

My doggies are on Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice Adult Formula, it's not the best, but it's good and its what we can afford.

THe cats are rotated(because Mom wont stick with ONE brand) between Purina, Authority, and Iams.

My all time best performing food for all of my dogs has been PetGuard Lifespan.  It's all life stages, which was nice when I had ages from puppy to senior.  It also has higher levels of Vit. E and C, which I feel helps keep my bichons healthier- their breed is not known for an outstanding immune system.
