What brand dry food do you feed...

and why? I have been feeding what I thought was a good food but now have found out it is not bad but is not the best either. I don't want to know about the raw diet because I have researched it and for me it will not work so please only dry foods. Thank you for all you help.

     Adult or puppy?

Anyway, I've alway been a Purina gal.  We fed our dogs Purina when we showed and bred, and I've always fed mine Purina.  Tried Eukanuba once with my GSD and he ended up with a vitamin deficiency, so...back to the Purina.

I also didn't have to switch 2 yrs ago when the recalls from China were going on.

My dogs are healthy, have great coats and good teeth so...that's my story.

I currently feed Blue Buffalo.  I have fed Innova and Canidae, but consider Canidae on a slightly lower level than BB or Innova.

I like the ingredients in Blue, and in Innova, but that's just gotten too expensive.  I look for meat or meat meal as the first ingredient, no corn, wheat or soy, no animal by product, no artifical colors, flavors or preservatives.  I like the use of WHOLE grains, no fragments, no glutens.

When I said we were showing, this was the family kennel.  I was a kid.

    Everything Glenda said!

I also feed Blue Buffalo - and LOVE it (well, my dog loves it!). I've also fed Orijen puppy - and really liked that one too - but it's too expensive for me to feed my dog (I used it on a special needs pup)

Casey came to me eating Science Diet - since I switched his food, his skin cleared up amazingly (he had nasty flea allergy and a raging staph infection).

I recently switched my cats off Purina to BB - and I am SO thrilled with the results.

Which formula do you use for the cats?  I've got mine on Wilderness and the little rescue has grown, gotten claws again, and is looking fabulous.  I took her in for a visit and they said they wouldn't have recognized her w/o the partially missing ear.  That, unfortunately, hasn't come back.....

    haha...

I'm feeding the Turkey one now (for sensitive skin), and we did the salmon bag before that. They have all always had nice coats - but they are SO soft now! And the poop is so much less smelly! (and with 6 cats, thats a GOOD thing!! haha) I was hesitant to switch because of my oldests allergies - but I did it, and I am SO glad I did. We did is slowly, and the old lady hasn't broken out and is doing well! She's gaining weight again too (she had lost some, which isn't a huge deal because she is fat). But I am SO impressed.

I think they liked the salmon one better though - but my guys will eat just about anything....I'll probably go back to the salmon next bag though.

Does anyone know if Petsmart or Petco sale the Blue Buffalo brand? I don't think I have ever seen it but I may have just over looked it.

    • Gold Top Dog

Petsmart is acutally the only place you can get it (that I know of)

I believe I've sern Blue Buffalo at Petsmart.  Go to their website...typically what you see there, you can get in the stores.

i'm currently feeding a mixture of Taste of the Wild Fowl and Eagle Pack Holistic.  I'm happy with the results, although it is a bit pricey.  But, not as bad as Innova, speaking price.  I liked Innova, but I believe the Barley in it made Heidi itchy.  No itchies with the current food.

Each one of my dogs get something different. The brands we have at the house right now and support are: Innova, California Natural, Orijen, TOW, BB, NB, and some Wellness

Blue Buffalo is sold at PETCO & PETSMART (to answer your question)

Thanks everyone. The bag of the food they have right now is almost finished so I will go this weekend and get the new food so I can gradually switch them. Maybe this will help Kanicas with his dry flakey itchy skin, maybe a combo of the good food and good baths with the good shampoo will get him in shape. I know it may take some time but I am so happy I got him from the shelter. I love watching him and Manchas playing.

BTW- Ernies mom I use to feed Pedigree before but there was something in it that made Manchas itch. I know it was the food because when I switched food his skin got better and he stopped itcheing. I didn't want you to think I ignored your post.

The BB has really done wonders for my 'skin' dog. Casey had super bad, flaky, allergy skin when I got him - and the food switch helped a TON. I also supplement in Fish oil and vit. E when the weather gets dry (like now...) that may help your guy too - I'd add it in with whatever food you choose.

Where can I get the fish oil and Vit E at? Is it like what they sell at the pharmacy or is it a special kind?

    • Gold Top Dog

I get fish oil and vit e just @ wal mart, or GNC...where ever.

I feed taste of the wild pacific stream
