    Fromm Four Star International holistic?

    Hi,

If you read my other post, you know that I am looking for a healthy food for a puppy.  I went to Petco and Petsmart to look at and compare:  Innova, Orijen, California Natural, Nutro and Blue Buffalo.  Obviously, the only brands that I found at these stores were Nutro and Blue Buffalo.  I stopped at another independently owned store on the way home and to my surprise found *all* of the foods in the list above.  Yeah!  Ok, to get to the point, I spoke w/ two different workers, explained that I wanted to go healthier in the event that my pup may be developing allergies.

We walked through my list of foods and both said out of the list, to go w/ California Natural.  However both said that if I was open, they would recommend a food called Fromm Four Star International food.  It is holistic and made for all life stages.  It is made locally in Wisconsin and both praised if very highly.  They seemed to know a decent amount of information regarding foods and what to look for.  Apparently this company has been around since 1904, making healthy pet foods.

Has anyone heard of this food?  I did a search on the net and found about 90% positive praise for the food, w/ only a few negatives.  The negatives were based on the canned food and that it is processed in China.  However they have a blurb on their website (frommfamily.com) indicating that all processing is done according to their strict guidelines, etc.  All of this line of food is supposed to be holistic/ human grade.  To be clear, I am only looking at the dry food and the four star line.

    Thanks!!

I've been feeding Fromm 4 star kibble to both of my dogs and it's an excellent food. I've rotated through different varieties- Duck & Sweet Potato, Chicken A la Veg, Surf & Turf, and Whitefish & Potato. I have a lot more confidence in Fromm than most other dog food companies.

I've fed Fromm surf n turf, nice stuff, but the food does have a lot of ingredients which you want to avoid for a possible allergy dog. The puppy food, for example, has duck, chicken, oats, barley, and fish in it, any of which a dog could become allergic to. If instead you fed the chicken formula of california natural the dog is only exposed to chicken and rice; if he becomes allergic to chicken or rice you have many options to move to.

Good point.  Sigh... so maybe when he is older because it does seem like great stuff.  I think I will then go w/ the California Natural.  Yeah... I made a decision!!!!! Smile
