You know, with the seemingly consistent recalls of wet and moist food, it's enough to cause a person to want to homecook, even if it's a little unbalanced. At least it isn't toxic.

All food products get recalled including the meats and vegetables in your local supermarket.  There is nothing that is 100% guaranteed safe.

Ain't that the truth !    When the big recall was going on I signed up for the FDA recall alert emails.   I get at least two a day.    Its trully amazing how much stuff gets recalled.

Well, there's farm-fresh stuff but not everyone has that option.  But, farmer's markets are getting very fashionable, even in urban areas.  Here's how to locate a farmer's market near you:  Local Harvest.com

I have a friend who is getting into freezer beef.  Beef fresh off the farm, grass fed, humanely raised, no antibiotics, the whole thing, steaks and all, any way you want it - probably a year's worth of meat for around $3-4 a pound.  Last I checked it was hard to find a good ground for that price!

No, it's not convenient - that's why we are at the mercy of the agribusiness people, the huge multicorp processors, and the grocery stores.  My point is that most of us CAN choose.  The more we choose options closer to the local farmer the better it will be for us, our pets, and yes, the economy and the environment.
