Need thoughts over dog having seizure, choked

    on a beef heart.

Dakota, my infamous choker, 5# Pomeranian who's notorious for choking on food. We literally always have to cut his food into VERY tiny pieces, as he is a slow eater, it's just he tends to get things lodged in his throat. He's been checked by our vet numerous times, in the back of his neck he does have bone chips, from what we don't know, we found him in a dumpster in Wyoming 4yrs ago at around 9mnths old.

He lives a normal life, vet says the bone chips are not causing any issues and could actually do more harm if we entervene with removal.

I've had pom's my whole life, and everyone of them has choked on their food at some time or another. This pom is the worst however. We have tried to blend his food before and he doesn't seem to like the consistency.

So here in lies today; he ate his normal lunch and was fine. A few minutes later he was the only one in the kitchen and just had that *can I have just ONE more piece* look on his cute face, I gave in, but then my big dog came up behind me. The piece I ment to give my big guy hit the floor and the little guy (Pom) was so excited, he scarfed it and instantly got lodged in his throat.

Lets just say we bout had a heart attack as even after I got it out of his throat, he didn't grasp for air. He relieved himself all over the floor, completely normal, but it took forever to get him to breath. I know that I shook him a bit, nothing major, and held him with his head tilted towards the floor. He finally started breathing, and then went into a full blown seizure that lasted seemed like forever.

Rushed him into the vet. Vet said he was fine, just whoopy after all of it. Vitals and reactions appear to be normal, vet doesn't believe he suffered any long term affects, I have to believe him as aside from being extra tired, Dakota is his normal self, running around when everyone came home, tail wagging, and now that it's dinner time, he's doing his little preaching with his two front feet in the air.

We're done taking chances, I'm going back to pureeing his food...my question, should I add slightly extra B-vitamins for a couple of days. My dogs normally get Vit E, Nutritional yeast - for the B-vitamins, and fish oil capsules.

Is there anything I should add for a couple days to help his system recover; AND, what's the likelyhood of damage having been done and/or permanently susceptable to seizure's now??

How scary for you!   I'm glad he's ok.   I have no experience with dogs having seizures so I can't offer any help there but I wanted to send you good thoughts.

In many ways seizures are the "big unknown" for vets -- because you can't know.  You guess.  You hope.  You watch.

You *might* want to keep some valerian root tincture on hand -- just to help calm him back down and relax.

You might want to keep on the lookout for one of those old-timey "grinders" (like you clamp on the table?) -- it wouldn't be such a pasty consistency and might be more palatable.

    Thanks for all the thoughts.

We pureed his food tonight, he was definitely into eating but got tired out eating such a liquid consistency. But his appetite is great.

What else can we do, food size wise?

Sometimes you can find the regular electric table top grinders on Craigslist after hunting season is over.   I had a dog for a couple of years who required all his food ground and that was what I used.

If you can't findd that, you can get a decent one for around $120, and one that will grind small bones such as wings and rabbit, for about $250.
