    Evangers

Okay..... I needed this answer earlier in the day, so its too late for now...but for the future.....what does anyone know about Evangers Super Premium 100% Beef or Chicken?  I ask because I was in PSP a few months ago...and they had a few shopping carts filled with things they were closing out...they do this from time to time.   I picked up two small ( 6 oz ) cans of this Evangers.....just for a topping for Gibby kibble. Checked the date and its fine.   They were about .65 a can.   So today I was taking Gibson to my sisters for dinner....packed his kibble and instead of taking my homemade chicken w/veggies......thought it was a lot easier to grab one of these cans and just open it and throw it on his food.  However....I got to thinking......why were they getting rid of them and have a mark thru the bar code.  As I said the date on both are fine....but started wondering if anything was recalled from them.     Ran  up to check on Internet....and only had a second, and only thing I came up with was that FDA was involved in something with them...saying the way they are preparing their food may lead to botulism.......or something of that nature. Didn't really see that it was recalled or anything...but I didn't have a lot of time to spend reading.   Figured you guys might know something but didn't have time to post it.  So I left them at home and took a can of Eagle Pack that I had,,,since I have a bad thing about feeding ONLY dry kibble.    I thought I would come here and see if anyone here knew of anything I should be aware of.......

That was awhile ago.  I believe someone posted that here (can't remember where).  Evangers had posted it on its website at the time it happened.

I don't think that is still an issue.  I haven't had any issue with Evangers.  My lab's favorite is Evanger's Hunk of Beef (his second favorite is Evanger's Duck & Sweet Potato)

I know something happened with a batch of cans (botulism I think?), but that was some time ago. I have continued feeding it and not only have I not had a problem, but my dogs *love* it.

no problems recently. They had some metal tabs or some objects found in one of their canned formulas a long while back--I didn't here about the botulism, though.  Our dogs love Smothered Comfort & cowboy cookout.  They are really rated to be very good

I think you are talking about Merrick, not Evanger's.

Thanks Jenns.  Sorry everyone, I meant Merrick and not Evangers--I'm having a blonde day as my son would say.  Just ignore my above post about Merrick!

Thanks guys....wonder why PSP put lines thru the bar code.....and sold them pretty cheap. HHHHmmmm! Guess I could have used the two cans.

The PSP here does that, too. It's just stuff they aren't going to order anymore, for whatever reason. Right now, all the Christmas stuff is half off (I got Emma a Santa hat, because she's decided she LIKES hats). The bar codes are marked off, and they just... punch in a price.

I've been feeding my dogs Evangers and they love it. It does have a weird smell when you open the can though...it's like burnt metal.  We haven't had any problems with it and I'm feeding at least 6 or 7 different varieties to the dogs and 4 to the cats.  It's a pretty good value for the money.
