    Liverwurst.. now what..

I picked up a small thing of liverwurst for Sandy to see if I can get some better results out of her. Now do I use it as is or do I bake it?? I've never used liverwurst before so I have NO idea what to do with it..

    Help!?

Use as is, but tiny, tiny pieces and not for too long at a time, because it's fatty.  Or, you can just use some other small, soft treats and rub them all over with the liverwurst so that the scent gets in there real good;-)

just break off a small peice - and use it! Casey LOVES it - that's how we became friends, I'd go sit in his kennel with a tube of liverwurst - and it was all up hill from there Smile

you can smear it inside a plastic container and let the dog have a lick or two as a treat, or buy a squeeze treat dispenser:  http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1355&ParentCat=54

Is it possible to bake it? I'd like to put it in a bag or something and use it as a small treat but the stuff I have is like a Pate so it's soft..

not really. I've tried to dehydrate it and make it into a more portable substance and it just doesn't cooperate, it gets all crumbly. The best I've done with it is the lick-container.

Hmmm.. I'll have to think of something else for outside then.. She does love hot dogs.. *thinks*

Crispy bacon is a hit in our house - both the pork and turkey varieties.  It has the advantage of being VERY easy to crumble up into tiny, training-sized pieces.

Mmm bacon.. *drool.* Lol.  Might have to try the turkey bacon...

you can over-cook the hot dog in the microwave and make a crunchy tasty treat if you know she likes hot dogs.

I don't normally cook hot dogs in the microwave.. I didn't know that! Lol. Learn something new everyday. I'll have to try that tomorrow.

I'm so serious -- the BEST training treats for all four of mine are the little Gerber Graduates freeze-dried apples, or banana/strawberry combos.  TINY pieces -- and man, my guys think they are awesome (litle sweet bursts that CRUNCH).

Liverwurst - now you've got ME wanting it!! LOL (a little mayo, diced up olives, spread pretty thin on bread ... yum ...).  It's one of those things I gotta be in the mood for but seeing this thread for days is doing a number on my head!! LOL

Lol. Sorry Callie. Didn't mean to make you crave it. I can't stand the stuff. But the dogs love it so I suffer. Lol. Smile

Gerber Graduates huh... I think Shoppers here carries them. And they're not to expensive. I'll pick some up next time I go shopping and give them a shot. Thanks!

oh yeah, microwave hotdogs. Works best with low-fat chicken or turkey dogs. Cut up, nuke ten minutes or so, let cool.

My dogs favorite is garlic chicken- sprinkle chicken with garlic, microwave, cut into pieces. Or boiled liver, makes an excellent high-value treat.

Mine like the Gerber fruits, too, and they have the big benefit of being tiny, and low calorie. The Wellness soft treats are very nice, if your dogs tolerate them (Emma doesn't, even a little bit.... we found that out the HARD way!). They stay soft in your pocket, and they're super smelly. Dried meats and liver (mudpuppy's garlic idea is good, too, they love garlic!) are super popular, here.
