    Addiction Viva La Venison

Anyone had good experiences with this venison kibble? I've been looking for a good grain-free venison dry food for my dog's rotation diet, which is proving a little difficult to find as there's not much to choose from. So far the only brands I've come across are Wellness, EVO, Adiction, Nature's variety. Since my dog does has done well on Addiction in the past I'm keen to try the food, ingredients look very good. Thanks!

I have no personal experience with this particular  food, as I don't feed dry, but it looks nice.  Another venison/grain free option is Canine Caviar's Venison and Split Pea formula---may be worth a look.

Evo has a grain-free *venison* ? Or are you just referring to grain free food companies?

If so, check out Orijen, one of my favorites due to their very thorough description of where their ingredients come from and the quality.

I, too have no experience with this particular food.  In fact, I don't remember ever hearing of it.  Just wanted to say Natural Balance has a grain free venison dry food, too (Sweet Potato and Venison).  Caleb's been doing very well on it.

Addiction is a cool company.  I really, really wanted to use their canned products for Ben and they answered a million questions on their processing and nutritional analysis.  In the end I was too nervous about using the imported meats for Ben, but I'd go with them in a heartbeat for a less sensitive dog.

Evo's Red Meat product includes venison.   I'm guessing the OP likes to include venison in the diet, but doesn't need to feed it exclusively.

Natural Balance is off my Christmas card list after the recall fiasco.  When they got caught out in it, they were totally close mouthed about either how it could have happened, and what they planned to do in the future to prevent it from happening.

For quite a while Ben could eat duck with no problem.  I used Natural Balance Potato and Duck as a kibble for him.  In the months before the recall, he suddenly became sensitive to duck, too.   The wheat gluten recall affected their venison allergy kibbles, but they are made in the same plant.  I can only imagine that Ben was exposed to wheat gluten (or possibly even melamine) via the NB kibble.

NB has never really striked me as a reputable company, don't know why...they just never gave me the warm fuzzy.

Thanks for all your responses, sorry this is so late, I've been away! Some of the brands you suggested aren't available in stores near me, although I've found them online. Will keep reading up before I decide.

Brookcove - Thanks, you're right, I don't need an exclusively venison food, sorry i should have made that clearer. You should bite the bullet and give Addiction a try! The ingredients always look good. A friend recommended it to me some years ago and I thought it was cool too so I bought some cans...and have never looked back. My dog loves it and does well on it, which I'm thankful for.
