Tiny kibble size?

    Tiny kibble size?

Anyone know of a kibble with tiny pieces?  Ginger has megaesophagus, thus she usually only eats canned food, mixed with water.  However, she's a horrible cat food stealer. The cats eat TOTW, which has tiny pieces.  She seems to eat this well, with no regurgitation.  (she is not supposed to eat it, mind you, but she's a gate climber) I'd like to add some dog kibble to her daily diet, but it would have to be very tiny pieces so she can swallow it, plus not do too much chewing because of her jaw. Canned food doesn't seem to make her very full...kibble seems to last longer.

She's had Solid Gold's Just a Wee Bit, but it made her poo copious amounts, so that's out.  Also, no chicken due to allergies.

ETA: I can get most brands here aside from California Naturals, Orijen and Innova, I think.

why dont you just soak the kibble in water? that way you can go with a food you like because of  its ingredients and it's easy, and probably less chewing involved... depending on the kibble you might have to soak it for a good 30min -1h, but i think once it has become a routine, it shouldbt be too much trouble...

Evo small bites, chicken and turkey, is very tiny kibble. Too tiny, IMO, it tends to get reduced to crumbs.  I bought it by mistake once but it might be small enough. It's probably about 3/8" diameter.

Doesn't Eagle Pack have a small breed diet that has small pieces? I think I remember that from some Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 place...

Solid Gold has Wee Bits, Blue has small breed which is smaller than a cat food kibble.

I have Bonnie on Wellness Small Breed, these are small pieces.  I get it at PetCo.

How about putting some kibble in a Ziploc bag and smashing it up with a hammer, or putting it in a coffee grinder or blender?  That would increase your choices.

I think mashing it would work very well.

Yes, Eagle Pack small breed puppy has the tiniest kibble I've ever seen - the pieces are the size of a bee-bee!  I can't imagine how they extrude it.  LOL  I think the puppy would be fine for little dogs as just a part of the diet.

Oh wait, no chicken.  Yeah, mashing will work.  I've mashed up Core Ocean just with a meat mallet and it crumbled nicely.

The smallest kibbles I've ever seen were Royal Canin mini formulas.

Of course, the ingredients aren't as good as the holistic brands, but if its only gonna be a small part of her diet it at least provides some variety.

Well...obviously feeding a dane I don't know about tiny food.....but I just wanted to ask you if you belong to the Yahoo Megaesophagus forum?   I do....although dont' post there now...but joined it when Bubblegum was sick with the dreaded disease......and now I still get and read the notifications for it.   Those people are so helpful to one another...its amazing how important they are to eachother.   I wish they could have helped Bubby.  But they talk so much about food...what kind and what they do and want they don't do....they might be able to help!

I just scrounged through a huge bag of premium pet food samples. The pet food store I go to is always pushing them on me.The winner in the itty bitty kibble category is Fromm Surf n Turf which is also grain free. Each piece is about the diameter of an Advil tablet, really small.

    Tena

Evo Red Meat Small Bites is what I've been feeding my girls along with home cooking. They seem to prefer the smaller kibble.... it's pretty small.

I am a member and do read, although I don't post.  I'm pretty lucky in that Ginger doesn't require a chair, etc to be able to eat. She had to be held up the first week she was diagnosed, but she was sick at the time as well. After she recovered she was able to just eat from an elevated feeder.Smile

I'll see what the pet store has and try one of the kibbles. I know I can find Wellness, Blue and Royal Canin. No one carries Eagle Pack or Innova. Because I'm a worrywart, I worry that breaking up other kibble would leave some sharper edges and she doesn't always chew well (she's a glutton and thinks every meal is a race apparently)

Smallest kibbles ever---Eagle Pack Holistic Small Breed puppy.  Smaller than the ones mentioned above (trust me, I've seen them all).

I already mentioned them Jana, but then I remembered she needs chicken free.

If you soak the smashed kibble in warm (not hot) water, any crunchy edges should dissolve.
