Shailer weaving poles

    Shailer weaving poles

I found an old vid of Shailer weaving poles. This is when I was traing him for it and he is not so good but not too bad. I really hate the poles and am planing to add a stable base to it but that will have to be when I finish fostering Big Smile. I think its a good way to learn on what I did wrong and what you should not do in training your dog. Its really short but it shows something.

I just got him trained last year it took me an e-collar to do it but he did it. He doesn't need it anymore and will NOW come for treats.

I'd love to train Sam to come when called. But he's the type of dog that ***knows*** when the e-collar is on him of off him. Seriously. He has a bark collar, if hes been barking a LOT I put it on, he shuts up. I can yell at him all night, ignore him, scold him, nothing. Put that collar one and not a sound. He'd bolt if I took him out without an e-collar after training him with it

The thing about the e-collar with Shailer was that the collar would shock him and he got taught the hard way the first week. After that there was no need to shock him but I still kept it on him. He was always good for listening but I blame the stupid 6x6 kennel he is kept in that made him not come when called before the e-collar. After that week it only took a couple of days with the collar on but not shocking him and giving him treats that he knew that with the collar on and off he would get treats when called. I also think that since he was more mature maybe he didn't have the thing of roaming around. I love the attitude of my boy though he listens good 99% of the time. He has a really good recall but only when I am there.

ETA: He will ignore dogs only if I am there. If he is beside me he can ignore almost anything.

Sam's control is so-so. He does well *most* of the time. Like 75-90%. But sometimes the lab-like 'puppy' gets the best of him.  His recall is 99% in our 1/4 acre yard. In the dog park, I dont try it because I want him to listen, he cant listen in they're.

I blaim the stupid kennel for Sam to....and me.

How much was the e-collar you got?

I got it off ebay for $74 I believe. If you are planing to get one I can let you borrow mine its just a year old and you will only need to supply the batteries. That way if it doesn't work for him it won't be money wasted. Just let me know, pm your address if you are interested.

ETA: I found another vid of Shailer weaving. Its a top view I really like this one.

I;d totally borrow it, but I have the tendencey to forget to give stuff back - literally, I forget. I'll shop around. Plus, if I have my own, I can use it for other dogs if needed, later on. Ya know?

Shailer is such a good dog!!! Give him love for me!!
