Feeding Schedules

    • Gold Top Dog

DH feeds Ben when they both get up at 6 am, I feed him between 7:30-8:30 pm, whenever we've finished dinner.  This is not any kind of "eating before him" ritual just that the schedule works best that way since I don't like Ben eating within 60-90 minutes of his afternoon walk and in the summer months that happens at 5-5:30 for an hour or more.  Winter's more flexible since I take him for his park run at 3ish.

    He eats kibble + toppers.

Nonnie is expecting so she also has two smaller meals per day since her tummy is squished by pups...LOL. That will continue once they come since her need for food will go up when she's nursng.

I didn't know one of yours was expecting! You know, you have to post TONS of pics of those adorable Beagle-baby faces!

I won't laugh Willow - Pirate ate SIX meals when he was sick, LOL!

    Currently...

8AM: 1/6th of a can of something grain-free, with supplements and meds.

2PM: 1 raw NV patty, in a Kong

    8PM: 1/4 c. homecooked, with supps.

Of course he gets cookies during the day :) Right now he has the Newman's Own chicken ones, mixed with Natural Balance's Sweet Tater and Fish minis.

     Speaking of laughing....

At 7:30 am, Emma gets 4 oz Bravo raw, 1/2 cup veggie "filler", medicine, and digestive enzymes. Ena gets 1/4 cup Natural Balance fish, with 1/4 can California Natural fish, with enzymes.

At 1 pm, they get a snack of some sort. It's usually just a couple of cookies, or something I dried in the oven. Something travelable.

At 7:30pm, they get the same as breakfast, with supplements added to it.

At bed time, around 11, they get about an ounce of meat, each. Sometimes, I'll split a can of sardines, or sometimes, it's a shared egg, or some goat yogurt.

And it's all about to change, because Ena's going to fresh food, and Emma needs a few more carbs in place of the green veggies.

I feel so much better about my dogs schedules now...

    Breakfast is between 6 & 7am.

Astra has lunch between 11 and noon.  The others get a snack of some kind

Dinners usually around 4, I try and stretch it to later but Astra can obviously tell time... (why is it the 5lb dog dictating to me???)

Bedtime snack - string cheese or yogurt or something like that.

kibble rotation is evo, california natural, natural balance, canidae... only the natural balance and canidae get toppers at mealtime.

Anyone want to share their recipe for these meatballs I'm hearing about?

I wouldn't dream of laughing!  Ben was eating four meals a day there at the end too, to get in all the "feed with food" meds and the need for other meds to be fed on an empty tummy.  With Ben you couldn't just wrap pills in a slice of bread!

Breakfast is between 9am - 11am and consists of a combination of kibble (about 2-3 TBSP of Evo Red Meat Small Bites - we rotate between holistic grain free/low carb kibble) with whatever the meat of the day is, made in advance (steak, chicken livers, salmon - although it's not their favorite....) and about 2TBSP of veggie of the day made in advance (steamed carrots, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, turnip greens, sweet potato, asparagus.....), sometimes I'll put a little cottage cheese in, about a tsp. Total of about 3/4 C. After they consume that they each get about 1.5 TBSP plain, non-fat yogurt. After that they get their multi-vite and their salmon oil pill covered in liverwurst. (We just started the salmon oil a couple of days ago, I can't wait to see if it makes a difference in their coats).

They get a couple of goodies (holistic type) during the day.

Dinner time is between 6pm - 7pm..... kibble, about 4TBSP, with meat and veggies. Total of about 3/4 C. No supplements or yogurt.

Abbie is more of a dinner time gal. Sometimes she'll eat all of her breakfast, but usually she only eats a little and I leave it for her to eat whenever she wants. She always eats her entire dinner. Layla, on the other hand, is a gobbler and never misses a morsel, but she won't touch Abbie's leftover breakfast, she used to, but she doesn't anymore, don't know why....

Bugsy gets breakfast between 6-7 am kibble (orjen fish) + yogurt - he then gets a piece of beef lung stuffed in a kong.

After his walk he usually gets something like apple or cheese or banana or liver treats in an Orbee ball or something

His key meal is his 'dinner' which is about 3 if anyone is home - we have tried and tried to delay this meal and it just doesn't work - if he eats later than say 7pm he pukes so 3ish it is!

he has some of our healthy scraps after we eat somewhere between 6-7pm

Dublin is almost two but still gets three meals a day.

7am 1 3/4 cups of Pro Plan Salmon and Rice

    1pm Same as above

    6pm Same as above

He is starving after our 2pm dog park hike and freaks out till I feed him dinner.  He is still very thin but I want to keep him lean and mean!

I am considering adding a bit of canned Wellness to see how he does but am afraid to do anything since after a year of funky stomach issues is has been doing so well for months now on just his Pro Plan.  But after reading all these posts I feel like he is missing out on goodies.  I do occasionally give him white rice mixed in and some well drained hamburger.

I feed once and the times ranges from 9.30AM to 5 PM. Early times being fed is when we are showing that day and are run in the afternoon. I'll feed a bone sometime during the day or evening.

     Tootsie:

breakfast: 7:00 am, 1/2 cup of EP Holistic Anchovy w/ vit. e and salmon oil

dinner: 5:00 pm, 1/3 cup of kibble w/ some applesauce or beets or peas etc...

Casey eats 3/4 cups Blue Buffalo - we rotate bags - with some sort of topper: yogurt, egg, EVO canned - but not always. I've also added his fish oil back into his diet for the "winter".

He eats between 10-11 at night. This works well for us. He's not a 'morning' dog... he usually finishes his dinner, and if there's any kibble left over, I save it for the morning so he can snack while I'm at work. That's a rare occasion though.

Fosters are fed two-three times daily, depending on the dog.

     Honor and Nike:

Breakfast: 7-10am (depending on work schedules), both eat Orijen, Honor gets 1/2 cup, Nike gets 1 cup, with some sort of topper or plain.

Dinner: 5-7pm, same thing, except they get EVO 95% meat canned as a topper.

Kongs and training treats are spread through the day.  I am currently in die-hard Orijen mode, so I've been toggling them between Adult and 6 Fresh Fish.
