Soybean oil and Soy Protein Isolates

Can someone tell me if there is any benefit of soybean oil in dog food?  The official explanation I got is the oil is high in linoleic acid but a more reasonable cost than, for example, sunflower oil.

And, what are soy protein isolates?  Are they soy version of rice protein concentrate?

    Thank you,

    Pauline

  • Soy isolates contain about 90% protein and are the most versatile of all the soy protein products. Isolates are used to add juiciness, cohesiveness, and viscosity to a variety of meat, seafood, and poultry products.
  •  Pure soybean oil is about 50% linoleic acid and 8% linolenic acid.

lot of great dane people are convinced feeding soy products to dogs is a major risk factor for death from bloat. Soy is said to be very difficult for many dogs to digest, and certainly can cause severe stinky gas. Soy protein is one of those cheater ways to claim the food has a good protein content without actually spending money on meat. The soy isolates are used a lot to help make those fake "meat chunks" in canned foods.

    Can you clarify this?

Thank you.  I was looking at a nature's recipe new canned food.  It has soy protein isolates (and outrageous price at $2.49 per can).  Personally, I like soy products for myself, but not for my lab.
