And "translating" information I've read myself in peer reviewed articles?

Translation without citation and linking leads the reader to 1) assume the info is coming from you and not the source and 2) prevents the reader from reading the complete article themselves and 3) tends to cause the reader to say things to their vet like "I read on the Internet" which causes most vets to almost immediately dismiss without consideration, whereas citing or bringing in a veterinary journal article lends a bit more credibility to the information and results in a more positive discussion and outcome with the vet.  It also provides the reader the primary source that they can evaluate for themselves.

be careful with the fiber- most dogs have no dietary need for fiber and will get diarrhea and really gassy if you give it to them. A small minority of dogs have digestive disorders that respond positively to fiber.

If your dog has soft stools on a lot of different foods consider a raw diet- dogs on raw, low-fiber, low-carb diets usually have very small, quite firm poops that literally crumble into dust shortly after pooping. This is the diet the dog's digestive system is designed to process. You can try a trial of a few weeks of pre-made low-vegetable content raw such as Nature's variety and see what happens.

I agree 100% with this.  I have a dog who had soft stools and diarhrrea on every food I tried, and the vets kept recommending more and more fiber to combat the problem.  Turns out, the issue WAS the fiber.  I now feed him Nature's Variety raw which is very low carb (no grains, only a small amount of veggie) and problem disappeared.

Hmm that's really good to know about the fiber.  I don't think I'm really comfortable with RAW and premade raw seems a bit pricey - but it's definitively something to think about.
