Slow it down missy your gonna choke to death

I need to figure out a way to slow my pups eating down after eating she often has the hiccups cause she has just gone for the world record of "Fastest Eater" she is also a mean scab had a tough start to the world but now is getting feed the right amount & has a mean nose on her will find food just about anywhere to my surprise, I have to watch her so she doesn't eat things she shouldn't be.

So as soon as she is finished she goes and watches Chip eat his food & if I am not aware of what she is up to she can sometimes steal a bit(Chip is a fussy/slow eater) which I am sure is annoying for Chip but has actually helped make him eat more hehe but she worries me with her hiccuping & burping after eating. Not only is it very unattractive it can't be very pleasent. What can I do?!

Maybe try putting something in the food dish that she has to work around or use a puzzle ball? I've got one for Maze when she decided she was a hoover. It's a plastic cube and you control how much or how little kibble comes out. The dog has to roll it a certain way for the food to fall out so it works their brain as well. Smile

I'm sure there'll be other people with better suggestions but that's all I've got. Hope it helps.

yea you can try an upside down can or two in her bowl so she has to eat around them

put ice cubes in with it- same idea **warning Bugsy loved the ice cubes and just ate them along with everything else

feed her off of a cookie sheet or the like - a flat pan with shallow edges

Most dogs do slow down at some point - Bugsy used to eat like that and now he is more reasonable -still fast but not ridiculous.

a puzzle cube type thing might be good too although I wonder about whether it will be too frustrating for a hungry - once starving pup

True. I never thought of that.. Maybe just use the ball for snacks during the day then. *shrugs* Smile

I don't really know just a thought - to this day if B is hungry and you make it difficult to get the food he just destroys the 'dispenser' and hits the jackpot

He is so lucky he's loved

Ari will inhale a bowl of kibble in about 30 seconds.  We have a busy buddy bottle toy that we put her food in to slow her down.  She doesn't get frustrated - in fact she seems to love it, but Ari is weird lol.  Try feeding on a plate maybe so the kibbles are dispersed out over a larger surface?  Maybe freeze the food?  If you feed kibble, water it down and freeze it in a lump?

puppy hiccups are pretty normal and don't have anything to do with speed of eating.

Maybe not but she does eat extremely fast

I have seen those bowls on here before I will see if I can find them here in NZ, in the mean time I have been putting her food on a tray that works alright but she just races around the tray like a humming bird & chops it down. I put a tin in her food bowl that worked well till she just flicked it out. Will try freezing it that should slow her down hehe.

You could also hand feed her.  I find it helps build a relationship as well as slowing them down.  Plus you can work on obedience at the same time.
