Adding salt and sugar?

    Adding salt and sugar?

I admit, I have a VERY "bad" diet by eating very sweet things and very salty things.

For my dog however, everything I read says that it is also VERY bad for her as well....however...don't they "need" some in their diet?

All the arguments I've heard says things like their body isnt designed to digest certain things like salt and sugar....but in essence... is ours?

People say don't eat "raw" food....but I eat raw beef (ever had thinly sliced beef, with a little lime juice squeezed on top with peanuts and mints?) or raw fish (easy...sushi) or raw oysters or even raw pork (heck....I'm Vietnamese....we eat even raw "blood" left to congeal from animals of all sorts including pig, goat, chicken, ducks etc.)  I have a very VERY weaken immune system too due to chronic illnesses such as Lupus and years of prednisone treatment....and never once have I gotten sick from eaten any of these things or anyone I know...

I dont know..maybe I'm feeling as if I'm depriving her of something....

Dogs don't need sugar at all in any form.  Full stop.  Dogs are built to get energy very easily from protein and fat.  We are more geared to get it from carbohydrates.  They do need small amounts of sodium (the stuff in salt that is vital for health), but they can get it from animal sources quite easily - it's in blood and bone in more than sufficient amounts.

Humans used to eat a lot more raw meat than they do now.  But caution is good these days. Meat is cultured, slaughtered, and processed under horrendous conditions which are ideal for fostering deadly pathogens.

Sugar and salt are probably WORSE for them than for us.

Of course, Emma's favorite thing at a dog show is to share altoids with me, before we go in  the ring. I figure, dogs LIVE on Beneful (which is chock full of sugar and salt) every day, and live fine. If Emma has a sweet treat once a month, it isn't going to kill her.
