Warning to Orijen Feeders

    • Gold Top Dog

Looks like it is showing up as xs. If anyone wants the pics, I can email them privatly.

I also wrote Champion Pet foods yesterday, along with photos of the kibbles, and no respose so far. I can't believe if they had good quality control, this ever would have made it to the stores.

This is so disappointing.  Orijen is the only food that Bailey the Maltese will eat. Here is my picture. Do my kibbles look like others with the bone problem?

    • Gold Top Dog

Exactly like mine, sort of gross. I mailed in a few to Pet Food Direct, so they can see for themselvs. How in the world did all these bones get in so many bags? Would have to have been more than one salmon, my guess.

And like the pictures Ash posted from two different bags.  This is much bigger than the company is letting on!

    • Puppy

My pieces were a little bigger than that in a bag of Senior. One was an inch long, and most pierced right through the kibble.

I'm not happy about it, but at least it was a visible problem, not like the unknown toxins we were dealing with a year ago.

    • Gold Top Dog

Okay, the company is claiming that thie peices are 1/4 inch long and no danger at all to the dogs.  Ash cut her finger on one and say the same culd happen as a dog swallows one.

    • Gold Top Dog

Mine were about 1/4 inch, but very sharp. This can do damage going down.  I still have not heard back form Champion Pet foods.

    • Gold Top Dog

Orijen does have info. about the slamon bones on thier site now. Everytime I tried opening it, I kept loosing it, so I'll try again, but at least they are letting people know.

    • Gold Top Dog

I don't know if these bones are bad for dogs or not, but yikes!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Below is the link to the letter form Champion pet food site explaining all this.

They go on about how dogs can eat bones, but not cooked bones! They even suggest picking out the pieces with the bones if you want from the food bowl, that would be my entire bags of food. I don't think I will ever be feeding Orijen again. For my grain free, I am actually happy with TOTW, and EP I still feel I never have to worry about. Would love it if EP came out with a grain free.

Ash is a dealer, but said it is Evo for her dogs from here on out.  I use Taste of the Wild High Prairie for my KayCee.

One of my friends is a dealer, too, and a raw feeder, so she isn't as panicked as some people are about this.  It isn't a good thing that the bones were not discovered, but I doubt that the relatively "soft" bones from salmon would hurt a dog.  And, all salmon that is fed to dogs is cooked, not raw, due to a parasite that needs to be eliminated by cooking.  I think this is more of a PR headache for Orijen than a significant danger.  But, of course, they should have stopped this before it got into the arena of public consumption.
