Tripe

    Tripe

Anyone feed their dogs this?? It's canned food (name on the can is Tripett and it comes in duck/salmon and green beef that we have), and my boss and another girl I work with say its like "filet mignon" for dogs. They said its really good for them but I wanted to know what people on here thought about it. I was thinking of getting a few cans and mixing it into their food every once in awhile but I really don't know much about the food.

    Thanks!

green tripe. Ultimate doggy health food. It's very stinky though.

My dogs love it.  We use the Solid Gold Green Tripe.  I just mix in a couple tablespoons with their kibble cuz they will get soft poo if I give them too much at once.  It stinks.  I immediately wash the dog bowls as soon as they are done so I can get rid of that smell.  We use it more of a treat type thing so only a few times a month.

    Yummy!
My girl - who is a picky/fussy eater - adores tripe. If her appetite needs perking, this is the most reliable food to get her going (apart from freshly cooked white fish).

Tripe has a naturally ideal Phos : Calcium ratio for dogs and is not as high in protein as many muscle meats. And most dogs find it highly digestible (as long as the tripe product is not too fatty). So IMO is a really great addition to the diet and provides variety as well.

I use the Ziwipeak canned Tripe Lamb and Venison, which is nicely low in fat - it's the only canned tripe product available to me locally.

My dogs love it. I mix in some Tripett Lamb tripe with their supper. In my experience, the Tripett Lamb is much less stinky than the Solid Gold Green Beef tripe.

My guys get about 2 cans of trippet a week.  Trippet is by far the less stinky brand I have tried, especially that duck formula.. tho I seriously warn you to expect it to be FOUL!  Ziwi peak is also good, but 1/2 again the price of trippet at my local stores.

It is really great for them though and they love it.

There are also tripe treats that are horribly smelly but are dried tripe sticks and those always go over wonderfully. :)

Emma LOVES tripe! Canned, dried, raw, she doesn't care. It's just about her favorite thing. At one point, I fed it as at least half of her diet, and she looked fantastic.

Well, looks like my dogs will be getting some Tripe!! I was told its very very stinky too. I just wanted to make sure it was good for them and I knew I'd find that information on here. Thanks!!!

Interesting, I never would have thought of tripe. That's the animal stomach lining right?   I didn't even know it was sold canned.  They usually get sardines each week and that stinks up the whole house, have to use the oder removing dish soap in their bowls right after they finish eating.

    It is BEYOND STINKY!

I give Bugsy the solid gold green cow tripe and I scoop it out next to the cooktop exhaust fan and still get drive heaves.  He however is dancing around the island anticipating its ultimate yumminess Ick!

It is also the only thing he eats SLOW - I'm sure he does that because I can't stand it Wink

My guys have a tripe meal weekly.  I use Bravo frozen, ground tripe.  We feed roughly 14 pounds a week.  The dogs love it, but it smells horrible, so we feed it outdoors!

The solid gold one was the first brand I used and I am not ever prone to gagging.. but I gagged so much whenever I used this brand.  Someone here recommended ziwi peak and trippett and I swear the trippet duck formula is really a FRACTION of the smell of solid gold.  At least in my area it doesn’t cost much more either. So if you have that available local, you might want to give that a try. :)

    Yes, & it's cheap!  It comes in 2 & 5 pound tubes.

I had to sneak in here alone to type out the word. t-r-i-p-e  My dogs LOVE this stuff.  I usually light some sage when I open the can - seems to help.  We usually have Tripett here, but I've tried other brands.  The dogs don't care which - they just fall all over themselves thinking how lucky htey are to live here on tripe day.
