    Critique?

I got some jumping vid today while working Z and I'd love some input.  I pushed her too far today so I hope it doesn't bite us in the butt later, but at least this vid was taken while she was still pretty tuned in.

Hi.  Me again.  :)  Looks great!  She's got nice attention to handler and runs well with you.

Suggestions, move the camera back a little bit and off set so you can see the plane of the jump and more of the handling before the jump is taken.  Feed her with the hand that is on the side you're working on.  ;)  The last set shows her curling into your front and you feeding her with your right hand yet she had been on your left going over the jump.

Just taught the first agility class of the season last night, can you tell?  ;)  I had to remind people to feed on the same side for an hour.  lol...

yay I was hoping you'd post! :D  And omg thanks for telling me I was feeding on the wrong side - I totally didn't realize that and kept wondering why she was turning into me so much!  Odd how we don't notice obvious stuff like that.

Tips on camera set up are great too, one of my agility friends said I should video but didn't say much more than that.  I was using a chair in the middle of the field, so it'll be easy to move the next time I take vid! :)

I'm so psyched about how well Z is doing.  I just hope pushing her too far yesterday - we worked for a full *hour* (oops!) - won't slow her down or demotivate her, but I think with the help of her fur tuggy we shouldn't have a problem. lol

It's so nice having a dog motivated by toys in addition to food!  The toys certainly do help with distance work and she seems to focus a bit more on the obstacle vs. when I use food.

We're shooting for her debut at a fall trial here - she'll be about 19 or 20mo and we may just enter jumpers, but that's the goal now.  Titles here we come!

You guys look like you're on the right track then!  I want to videotape my practices too, just need to remember to do that!!  I have found that the most useful videos are ones where you can see both handler and dog from start to finish.  This is because you can see what you may or may not have done right in the "opening", the "gamble" and the "closing", so to speak.  ;)  If you can't see all of it, then you don't know if something you did initially was what threw the whole thing off.

After class last night, I took Kota out to practice with some random jumps and weaves.  We went over one jump, through the weaves and OFF he went.  Hmm   I think it was the first time that lots of strange dogs had been in the field since last spring, so he just wanted to go sniff everything.    I didn't even get a chance to use "free, go sniff" as a reward because he self-rewarded.  So I put his leash back on, hooked him to the fence and rearranged a few things.  Then tried again.  We did better after that but there was a lot to be distracted by!  Good for us, but also not good.  lol...
