Small Animal nutritionist consultation

    Small Animal nutritionist consultation

    So I found a small animal nutritionist at Michigan State Vet school and am thinking of consulting with her about Dakota's stomach issues and the fact that Neiko has to eat like a horse to keep weight on. It's $45 for a 15 min of consultation. She said that it would probably only take us 15 mins to discuss my issues. Do you think that's worth it? I'm thinking that it is for Dakota alone but man that's a lot of money for 15 mins! Plus if it only takes 15 mins how much info can I really get? Or do I really need it if it will only take 15 mins.

      Jessie sees a veterinary dermatologist at Purdue University but she doesn't charge by clock. The initial consultation was $125 but since then it's only been $25 and sometimes she doesn't charge anything. Have you asked if it's $45 every time or just the first visit? If you go, I would write down any questions you can think of so you get as much information as possible from the visit. The only comparison I know of is Monica Segal, who charges $250 for the first month and $100 for an additional month. Have you tried RX diets for sensitive stomachs; here's 2 made by Royal Canin;

      I know you've been trying to solve Dakota's problems for awhile. I really hope you can find the answer for her soon.

    The low residue foods not helping her??  Poor Dakota!  There is the z/d you could try.  Willow loves it and it's helping her out.  I'm adding homecooked to the dry.  I have to really limit the canned, it doesn't help.

    Holy Moly, is Monica Segal a vet?  I had no idea it was that expensive!  The nutritionist who did Indie's consult is at VA Tech and the consult was $100.  There wasn't any time limit, we talked forever and she developed a homecooked recipe for him that had such detailed analysis, I felt great feeding it because it was so carefully balanced.  I wonder if you could set up a phone consult (that's how we did it) with her and have your vet fax them the pups' records ahead of time.  Might be worth asking.  Her name is Iveta Becvarova and she's at VA Tech.  I think $45/15 minutes is kind of steep unless she looks over things ahead of time or there is time spent afterwards developing a feeding plan.

     I say it's worth it....but I'm a little biased. Wink

     I think it would take more than 15 minutes for her to get to know you and your dog.How on earth is she going to listen to every minute detail of your problems and then formulate a feeding plan,discuss pro's and cons and what to do if plan A doesn't work etc etc ?

    I think it would be a very stressful,rushed and expensive 15 minutes

      She's a certified animal nutritionist;   http://www.monicasegal.com/   The $250 covers more than one consultation; it's for a month of services. She will also work with your vet.
    There's another site called PetDets.com; http://www.petdiets.com/consult/default.asp?ConsultType=Nutritional%20Consultation,   that has veterinary nutritionists. I know someone who used their services and for $250 they worked with her for 3 months, adjusting the diet and answering any questions she had.
