Royal Canin Potato and Rabbit Formula as an Allergy diet?

One of my dogs is an allergy dog, so we went to the dermatology specialist today, and she told us that the only way to see if hes allergies is the food allergies is to put him on the Royal Canin Potato and Rabbit Formula for 12 weeks, and see if he does better on it. Has any of you fed that formula to your dogs? How do you like it, how are the Ingredients?
Did your dogs allergies had improved on it or not? I have never fed Royal Canine before, so it's new to me. And I want to feed the canned version of that formula. I can't really find the list of the Ingredients on line, so if any of you knows what that food consists of, please share. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

im not sayin to go against your vet at all..but there are some *ahem* cheaper diets that will serve the same purpose. natural balance potato and duck, natural balance sweet potato and fish, and natural balance sweet potato and venison. also a couple of the wellness simple solutions formula's. as for your original question, i cant seem to find the ingredients for the potato and rabbit but ill keep looking

Is Royal Canine tends to be pricey? I was thinking it was on the cheaper level? The one I'm feeding right now - the Evanger's (canned) I think is more expensive. But honestly, ALL I care for is to find the solution to his allergies.

Also, if anyone is familiar with this food - does it contain any by-products or not, because if it is, I'll be forced to look for the alternative.

Actually, none of those cheaper diets is as simple as the IVD simple formulas. The Potato and Rabbit formula goes something like this:

Dehydrated potatoes, rabbit, potato protein, canola oil (preserved with tocopherols, rosemary extract and citric acid), potato fiber, natural flavor, dicalcium phosphate, sodium chloride, salmon oil, evening primrose oil, DL-methionine, L-lysine, vitamins (choline chloride, vitamin A supplement, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, inositol, niacin, d-calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, beta carotene, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of vitamin K), biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), minerals (zinc oxide, zinc proteinate, ferrous sulfate, iron proteinate, manganous oxide, copper sulfate, copper proteinate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite).

No flax, no kelp, no bells or whistles.  Ems has eaten the canned version before without an issue. It comes in life stages formulas, too, with low calorie and large breed formulas. I love, love, love the IBD simple formulas, for allergy dogs.

    The canned rabbit goes :

Potatoes, rabbit, rabbit stock, rabbit by-products, canola oil (preserved with tocopherols, rosemary extract and citric acid), vitamins and minerals.

IME, there isn't a ton of price difference, either.

Ohhh, so you are saying it does contains by-products? I was looking into the canned version of it. My dogs don't eat kibbles. They don't love them. Also, what is the IBD simple formulas? I'm not familiar with that? I would hate to feed him something that has by-products in it. Are you sure that it has it in the ingredients? Then I might have to have another talk with her.

IVD is the label. It's owned by Royal Canin. And yes, the canned has by products. I've used it, seen it, smelled it, fed it. All of the food my dog eats has by products (liver, tripe, kidney, bone, lung, trachea, etc), so I wasn't too worried about it.

I've gotten excellent results over the years with Royal Canin/IVD, both the commercial and prescription varieties.  I used the Royal Canin (then IVD) potato and venison for my dog's allergy elimination diet years ago, and my cats are now on Royal Canin's urinary formula.

    PomMommy--

This food is an excellent choice for an allergy dog---there is nothing wrong with the rabbit by-products in a rabbit only product.  When people take issue with by-products in a food it usually is because it is listed as "animal by-products", therefore you have no indication as to what animal the by-product is from (could be beef, turkey, chicken, etc.....)

As jennie c_d mentioned, the IVD formulas are great because they are so simple.
