You can see Uno (WKC Best In Show Beagle) is now advertising with ProPlan...lol. Not sure what to make of that....but I think he looks great.

Even more amazing is that 78 of the top 100 AKC All Breed Champions use ProPlan.

Windkist & K-Run both feed Pro Plan and have done for years ... so I'm not surprised they're endorsing it in a major way. Since I belong to the Pro Club (Purina's breeder program), I get their Today's Breeder magazine and have seen Uno (and Parker) in there before, with mention of how Uno is fed PP Selects. Usually I roll my eyes at those types of endorsements, but this is one hound that was actually literally concieved on and fed PP throughout his life - and his coat is awesome :)

Interesting. So the conformation folks feed proplan.  Practically all of the serious, winning agility competitors I have talked to feed raw or one of the grain-free kibbles. I don't think I've met anyone who fed proplan to their agility dogs.

    Umm...no.

SOME do. I doubt the entire populous of conformation showing feeds ANY one thing.

Well, it's not just the conformation folks. My hounds are primarily bunny shaggers, during hunting season I run them 2-3x weekly, on average for 4hrs at a time. It takes stamina & endurance - now a huge part of this is genetics, but I've seen them "burn out" on certain diets. I don't prefer grain free kibbles because the level of protein, IMHO, is beyond ridiculous, and will ruin the kidneys of a working dog operating under terrible weather conditions (especially when running in the heat! they are at a severe risk for kidney problems stemming from dehydration and other factors on hi protein diets coupled w/ heat & this is coming from a Vet I used years ago who also hunted w/ Beagles). Anyway, raw is approx 21% protein - it's protein based, not hi protein. I do feed mine raw as often as possible, but one of many reasons I quit 100% raw was that my hounds did not ahve the level of concentration and endurance they do when the diet is supplemented with grains.

Most field trialers & hunters I know are feeding Purina, mainly Pro Plan. They've tried the cheaper foods: Diamond, Black Gold, etc. but find that their performance dogs do quite well on Pro Plan. I think the conformation people prefer the coat it produces, but it's invaluable for working dogs b/c it doesn't screw up their blood sugar levels and cause those spikes that precede "hunting dog hypoglycemia" and keeps the dogs in good body condition, muscle mass.

I've had a difficult time finding a food that produced good coats, weight, teeth, stools, mucsling, endurance - sometimes I find them, but never fails, they either work for only a few of the hounds or quit working after 3-4 months, like clockwork. Sounds like a corny advertisement, but Purina doesn't do that :) It works for ALL the dogs and works quite well.

I no longer demo for them but did for eight years and hope to again someday.  And they do not lie about those stats.  They do feed a large percentage of the top dogs.  Dublin was on Selects for the first year and as some have read I switched him to Fromm and also tried Blue on him.  I had vomiting so that didn't fly.  He has such a sensitive gut.  He moved to the Sensitive Skin/Stomach and is doing great on it.  Less poop, well formed and best of all his eye goopy stuff is gone.  I thought it was from the field and it must have been something in the Selects!  I am leaving him on the Salmon for now.   Less ingredients seem to do him well.  Anyway....use what works for your dog.  Mine runs daily in all the weather conditions and he shows no signs of problems with energy levels.

They also endorse a number of dogs and the top dogs that are fed Purina often gets some free advertising in magazines. Purina is an ok food, but I will never feed it to my show dogs, regardless to what sort of deal they want to offer me for feeding it. I do not feel that it is as good as other food and have found that there are several other better foods that I would rather put my dogs on.

I've often wondered how many people say  they feed certain brands to get certain perks. How do we know for sure that they are actually feeding this stuff,or just say they do to keep the promoters happy??
