    Instinct Chicken Meal Formula

    Information for our Customers

Recently, some of our customers who are feeding InstinctT Chicken Meal
Formula grain-free kibble for dogs have experienced loose stools and
occasional vomiting. If your dog has experienced this and your bag of
Instinct Chicken Meal Formula displays a "best if used by" date of 1/3/09 or
1/10/09, you may return it to your retail store for a replacement or refund.
The "best if used by" dates are located on the back of the package.

Please be assured, Nature's Variety has not changed the formulation of
Instinct Chicken Meal Formula grain-free kibble for dogs. However, recent
changes in production facilities caused these two code dates of product to
differ enough from our previous product to cause some digestive upset in
    some dogs.

At Nature's Variety, we make all of our products with integrity and care for
the health of your companion animals, and we deeply regret this situation.
We will continue to take any and all necessary steps to assure the quality
of our products. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to ask. Just click the CONTACT link at the top of this page, and
our team will respond to you as quickly as possible. Thanks again for
    choosing Nature's Variety.

Aw, man. I hope the duck/turkey doesn't have any problems.

I just fed mine the duck/turkey formula and didn't have any problems. I rarely buy their kibble except when I have a coupon to get a free bag. I mostly feed the raw medallions. I can't wait til I get my garage cleaned out so I can buy a new freezer and go 100% RAW and avoid all this hysteria and worry Huh?    I got nervous for a minute because loose stools and vomiting were the same symptoms the dogs that have been dying that ate Nutro had.

That scares me b/c I tried Instinct Duck/Turkey for Wolfie, and he started throwing up/having chronic diarrhea the next morning and for 3 days.  I tried switching his food back to the old stuff and he still had problems (just no vomiting). I took him to work w/ me and got a fecal, CBC & Chemisty blood profile, AND had an internal medicine doctor look at him.  They had no idea what was wrong so prescribed some Metronidazole and after one day (even though he was on it for the full course of 5 days) he went back to normal.  I didn't feed him any more of the NV Duck/Turkey tho...went back to the old stuff.   Now I'm curious....

Another good reason if feeding comercial diets to look into who is making your dogs food. It very well may not be who you think.

Whole Dog Journal this year lists foods and who makes it. Anyone can come up with a formula for a food. But if you don't have your own manufacturing plant you lose control of the process.

Nutro having problems, now NV Instinct?  Just goes to show you that to some companies quality comes far down the list of importance when producing food for your dog.

Does anyone know if this is a vomit toxin ?  This would be very serious and if you have fed this food look into Milk Thistle to build up the dogs liver. Also SAM-E is good.

Pirate has been eating Duck/Turkey for 6 months or so? He's done well on it. I am glad I got a couple samples of CORE Ocean Blue to rotate onto for a bag or so now though.
