Problems with Nutro, illustrated

    • Silver

Anybody can have a website and start trashing dog food brands semi-anonymously. How many times have I read posts from people who were convinced that if their dog got sick, it was because of whatever the dog ate for dinner that night. Heck there was even someone posting a while back claiming to have found "sutures" in some kibble brand and they posted pics. Trouble is, the kibble obviously was NOT the brand they claimed it to be. Kidney failure is an extremely hard thing to pinpoint, it can happen over a period of years or it can happen in the short term. I can understand that people might be upset, but the ability to post whatever you want about some dog food brand is sometimes not a good thing IMO.

But I am not going to base my decisions on a collection of "personal accounts" on some web site that may or may not verify the truth of those accounts. Until and unless there is an official recall I am not buying it.

And for the record, Nutro is ok, there is plenty worse out there, but it is not the best either.

    Nor am I Jean.

My intention was simply to share what I found to be somewhat concerning information based on what I was told that the Nutro rep had said.

Glenda, sorry for any misunderstanding! I was not replying to you, but I see that it came out looking that way. Indifferent I'm still having trouble with the new-new forum software here. Crying

I was refering to the consumeraffairs website which I personally do not have a lot of faith in. Anyone can file their complaint online, and they seem to be a site that is looking for potential clients for attorneys. I mean look at this on the bottom of the 'file your complaint' form:

We work with attorneys with specific expertise in many areas of consumer law. It is sometimes necessary for them to contact you in order to determine whether there is a legal remedy for your complaint. There is no charge for any such consultation. Check below if you DO NOT want to be contacted by an attorney.

And I question whether the information that gets submitted is every independently verified or just gets posted as long as it is not too inflammatory.

There are a few other websites out there which I will refrain from posting that if you read them you will be convinced that you are certainly poisoning your dog with any brand of commercial dog food. I'm just not buying into it.

I guess I'm still a bit gunshy about commercial foods after the last horrible situation.

I do see....it's my excuse to continue to refuse spinach in any form LOL. Just a bit of humor there....let us know what you find out from the rep.

Spinach??  OMG woman!  I was going NUTS and had major withdrawal waiting for spinach to come back!  But, it's ok if you don't want to eat it...all the more for me.  I love it fresh in salads or steamed with a bit of butter......however, cooked is definately an ACQUIRED taste!

OK, the rep told the trainer there was a rice problem, she told ME that there is a problem with the bag glue......gee, mom of Blue rep.....so I asked the store manager and HE said that it IS a rice problem and said that he'd gotten notice from the company to pull the bags.  Now the manager knows me from the radio station AND as a volunteer with the rescue, and since Nutro is one of the foods that the rescue suggests, he is going to be straight with us, I would think.

    Hmmmmmm.

For what it's worth. The Nutro rep also told us that they are having problems with the new bags for the cat foods in the 8lb and the 4lb sizes. He said we were welcome to open up the bigger bags if people were okay with that themselves.
