    Problems with Nutro, illustrated

I read this on another board and it just makes me shudder...

This is frightening.  I THOUGHT the issues were a thing of the past.

It's funny because we've tried Nutro at least 3 or 4 times with various dogs over the years and not one of them did well.  You have to wonder about the chemicals in the food. I have known people with dogs who claim to have wonderful results; we were not one of them on any dog.  The ultra wasn't bad but made them lethargic and in a few weeks one wouldn't even touch it.

Ugh, this is so scary.  I recently switched my dogs from Nutro Nat. Choice to Eagle Pack, well all except Benny.  He absolutely LOVES Nutro and I haven't found anything he will actually eat yet.  I'm thinking our next step will be to try Natural Balance.  I had just had a "bad" feeling about Nutro and switched everyone from it.  Those poor animals though, how sad.Sad

Nutro is HORRIBLE stay awaaaaaaaaaaay. Read your ingredients & do your research!!!

When I meat people my #1 recommendation is Natural Balance

Nutro's ingredients are not "HORRIBLE", *content removed, rude* . They may not be fantastic, but it's certainly not one of the worst foods out there.

The issues with it don't have to do with its named ingredients, but the unnamed ingredients. Pedigree has much much worse ingredients, and it doesn't kill dogs in three day's time. It's not all about reading ingredients, Pom.

Looks real bad.... but was this destined to happen once they were bought by Mars with the intention of making it a grocery store brand?

*content removed, rude* I REPEAT.... NUTRO IS HORRIBLE. Do not buy their products. They have been on the recall list multiple times and even their NAMED ingredients alone are horrible for a dog's digestive system. Hopefully testimonials such as the link provided can help prevent people from buying certain commercial dog foods.

I'm not giving an opinion one way or another on the brand.  BUT, if you look at those testimonials closely you will notice some of them say the dogs had blood work, which came back normal.  If a dog was in kidney failure that was that extreme that it was almost dying the results wouldn't be normal.  Nor would they be normal if the dog had eaten some sort of poison. I'm skeptical of any of those that state the dog had all kinds of symptoms with no cause other than a new food. It just doesn't make sense.

I don't know. My sister switched her corgi to Nutro skin and coat formula and the dog has never looked or felt better. She was on Wellness and she lost fur and got ear infections. I think that whatever works for each individual dog is good.

Also, I don't alway believe what I read on the internet. For all we know those comments could be posted by a Nutro competitor.

Excuse me but you are being extremely rude; chelsea_b is right....so please jump off of your soapbox.  Judging by your previous posts, you are new to the "ins and outs" of dog food research/ingredients, etc...

Nutro is bad, but it is not because they have "horrible ingredients" (although they aren't the best).  I think Nutro has manufacturing issues and ingredient quality issues that they may not be aware of...

That could be true; I certainly have an open mind to that idea.  You have to wonder though about how all of the stories over so many websites, forums, etc are all variations of the same "symptoms" that dogs seem to be having.  I have also known 2 friends of mine who's dogs had weird bouts of bile-vomiting while on Nutro.  They weren't having any major health problems and are in good health overall (to my knowledge), but after reading some of the complaints it does make me wonder....

WOW…. OK… lets all step back here folks.  Pom, I am sorry but I have to disagree with you.  Your “extremism” is completely over the top and unnecessary on this thread.  There are many folks here who feed nutro and I am sure don’t appreciate your comments.   We all have our reasons for feeding and for not feeding certain foods. For example, I stopped feeding natural balance rolls years ago as “high value treats” after finding out they contained unnecessary sugar.  so no food is going to be "the one"

As for this Nutro stuff.. this is most disconcerting.  I know my grey rescue feeds it as they can get a years supply completely donated by the company for their rescue efforts and 90% of the dogs seem to tolerate it very well. Very sad news indeed.
