POLL: Premium Dry Kibble Survey

Expanding on your post, do you feed all your GSDs the same food? Do they all respond similarly well to the same brand & formula of food (in regard to kibble, not your home-cooking)?

Opppps, sorry.  Have been out playing in the snow....or rather, I've been working keeping up with the dogs at play!

Yep, they all eat the same thing.  And they all respond identically as far as coats and too much energy!

I voted "other".  I feed Willow homecooked now and when I can't she gets canned food.  I stopped kibble a few months ago as it was flaring up her IBS plus upsetting her stomach.  I think she's just having more issues with it as she's getting older.  So, no more kibble ever for Willow.

Thanks! Not all dogs will do equally well on one brand of food, yet ALL of your six DO! I find that fascinating. Makes me think that there is more to why this is so (multiple dogs in one household) ...possibly due to factors like: environment, home-cooking, or I don't know.

Our male Golden has always had digestive issues, our female Golden has always had an iron stomach. For a long time, I had to feed for him. Since I've started adding acipdophilus to his diet, his system is much more hardy and so they can now eat the same. Both having awesome poops, soft & shiny coats, allergy-free (no skin conditions known to Goldens, like hot spots), crud-free ears, energetic, muscle tone, nice weight, happy temperament, very healthy (annual trips to Vet only), etc. Our GSD's needs are different...so, she can have a bit more fat & protein, etc. Still, all three can have the same brand but different formula within that brand. She does not appear to have the sensitive stomach that I've heard German Shepherd Dogs can have. We also do home-cooked but not nearly as much as you do...someday maybe, lol.

Somebody forgot to tell my gsds that they are supposed to have sensitive tummies.  Shadow now and then will have an issue or two, but rarely, and he's the ONLY one who ever has issues.

I dunno.  They all have great bloodwork, great muscle tone, tons of energy, good coats, etc, etc, etc.  Maybe it IS the homecooked?  They only get raw usually about once a week so I can't credit that.

As for homecooking, I only do that once a week.  I make two giant pots and that's it for the week.

I have submitted a request to the Mods & Admins for a new/updated Nutrition poll and I would like all of your opinions.

This first poll was a good run; I learned a lot from you all about new brands I never thought of. I would like to update the dry kibble poll & also make another one... here are my ideas (I'd love to hear some feedback so that maybe the Admins would like to post them)

Just to let everyone know I have sparked great interest in Canine Nutrition. I enjoy reading what you all do with your own dogs & have learned a lot in the processes. For those that don't know I am renovating a website www.pomeranianpuppies.org I would like to have a NUTRITION section that suggests good Kibble BRANDS & information/links about other popular diets. With these polls I can notice a trend, popularity, and learn a great to to help me in this "quest."

What do you all think? Feel free to post it here or PM me. Thank you for participating, all of your knowledge, and most importantly your time.

Why do we need another poll?  It would seem like the answers given would be suficient for your purposes.  I believe that if you search the nutrition archives you'll find a wealth of information.

WELL after studing statistical analysis for so long, the one thing I did learn was when the "other" category out weighs all of the categories then the survey/poll is "skewed" with error and needs to be approached differently.

Providing a bigger list of Dry Kibble will provide better results for EVERYONE to view. Maybe you personally do not care which brand is the most popular; but many other viewers looking for suggestions to try, do feel this type of information is valuable.

The beauty of a FORUM and POLLS is that is the only way we can learn from this site. No one is an expert; no one knows the right answers; but instead we can learn from everyone's personal choice & experience.

    Agreed.

    Thank you, papillion.

If I were to do an actual count of the bags of food that go out the door at PetsMart, Nutro would win hands down.  So, no, to me, the most popular food doesn't matter.  I'm sure not going to feed it, regardless of how popular it is.

I try foods based on research, reading the comments of other folks who have tried those foods, and continue or not, based on my dogs response to that food.  I don't particularly WANT a concise list of those foods.  I gain more information going through and reading entire threads on various foods and there are PLENTY of those in the archives.

Well, I think one reason (that was mentioned earlier) that so many picked "other" is that they feed Innova or some other Natura product and that wasn't an option--so you might want to add it in this time.

Also, while I enjoy seeing what others are buying it really doesn't effect my decisions on what my individual dog gets.  I have to feed what's best for her.
