Wellness CORE new Ocean formula - how smelly?

Looks like the Ocean formula is now out! Has anyone seen it on the shelves at their local stores?

I checked with my online retailer, and they say they expect to have stocks in within 2 weeks.

Could anyone who tries it in the meantime please give some feedback - especially on how much of a fishy smell it has?

ooooh!  I'll have to be calling my local dog food store and ordering some of that!  I've been waiting for it to come out!!  It must've JUST appeared this week because I've been checking Wellness's website pretty regularly for it and this is the first I've seen of it.Big Smile

I love how on the site they have a little quote from someone who's dog "is doing great and has changed for the better blah blah" on Wellness CORE Ocean....funny if it's only been out for a week, lol.

Sorry! Had to point that out Big Smile

I am actually going to see if my local store carries it to give it a try for my guys.  They are actually doing very (surprisingly) well on regular CORE.  I may do a 50/50 mixture.

I sort of assumed that was from a focus group thing or taste test?  Do dog foods not do that?

My mom did a focus group for "lite" Krispy Kremes!  She said it was really fun, but the donuts were terrible.

Ella's only had samples (actually not even an entire bag of a sample bag) of the regular Core.  In fact (and I have to mention this because I'm proud of us), I fed her some as treats tonight while we dremeled her nails.  WHEW, that wasn't HALF the ordeal I expected it to be.

Anyway, she seems to LOVE the regular Core, but I'm not sure how well a WHOLE BUNCH of it would do on her system.  I cannot wait to get some of the Ocean and try it out on her.

Does anyone know how much the regular Core costs?  I haven't priced it yet.  And does anyone know if there is going to be a big price difference between regular core and Core Ocean (the way there is with regular Orijen and Orijen 6 fresh fish)?

Not sure about the price of CORE ocean, but the regular CORE at my local store was $49 for 26 # Devil

the regular Wellness core is one of the most expensive foods on the market at the moment- only 900 kcal per $1, compared to EVO at 1200 kcal per $1 and Timberwolf organics wild n natural at 950 kcal per $1.   Anyone know how much Blue Buffalo's Wilderness is being sold for?

Well, I can answer my own question now :)
It does have a bit of a pongy/fishy smell - not as strong as some, but enough to make my dogs at first shy away.
I persuaded them, finally, to try it, and they slowly got used to it. Some foods, they're all over them the first time and then they lose interest quickly. But with the Ocean, their interest built up slowly and steadily. So much so that now it's my boy's #1 favorite kibble - before the Ocean, it used to be the Core RF.
I'm very pleased with it so far. I have also noticed that my boy's coat looks very good; his apricot coloring has intensified. A neighbour today commented on how good he looked. Admittedly kibble only makes up the smaller proportion of his diet ... but ever since I started feeding him the Core, I noticed a distinct change for the better.

My local dog food store isn't carrying it, yet, so I asked the owner. He's getting some in, and some samples for EmmaWink He knows that I don't feed kibble, on any kind of regular basis. She tolerates a little bit, and she LOVES it, so I use it as training treats. The Core fish looks SO GOOD. She'll get less than 1/3 cup a day, though, so I doubt it'll affect her for better or worse.

Seriously?! I just bought a 4 lb. bag for $11 at my local Pet Supplies Plus. Surprise

Yep, my 4 lb. bag is less than $15. I'd never looked at the price for the big bags as they'd take me months to get through.

We're almost through our first bag - I think Pirate is 'hooked' ~L~. He's not any better or worse than when he was on NV Instinct, but Wellness is more readily available for us.
