Taste of the Wild...results?

    Taste of the Wild...results?

In light of the new TWO stuff, I have been recommending TOTW to a few people, but wanted to get some feedback from those who have been feeding it for awhile.  I know it hasn't been out very long, but if anyone has been feeding it for a good amount of time (w/o switching to anything else in between) please let me know the results!  Anything about kibble consistency/size from bag to bag and especially if it causes gas or constipation (which I sometimes see frequently in high protein foods).

     Please be honest!

     Thanks in advance Smile

    Good thread!

I'm going to ask my feed store guy (who sells Diamond) to get a couple of bags in when I finish the current stuff we're on.  Ben's going to all home prepared/raw, so I can feed foods with chicken or egg to my other guys.  I've really liked the looks of these foods but was frustrated that they include chicken products in every formula.

I just started a small bag of the poultry taste of the wild, and have gotten some very soft poops from one of the dogs. The others seem fine. Only had a few meals so far though. Also trying to find a replacement for timberwolf- the price is ridiculous in light of these ingredient changes. We just finished a small bag of wellness core and it definitely made the dogs gassier than the timberwolf.

We have been using Core for a while now and there is definitely a certain "air" to the house when we've been out for a while and come back!  The results were so good and it's so great having a decent food less than an hour away - I've just learned to live with it.  But I'd like to see whether the TOTW might do better - I could get it from the same place just 25 min away.

Brookcove...if I remember correctly, do you live near Raleigh, NC?  If so, where do they carry TOTW around here?  (forgive me if I'm mistaken)

You beat me to this, I was going to post to same question about TOTW. Core did not go over very well, pieces to big for most of my Pugs, and constant soft poops. Orijen went better, but very gassy, and all poops smelled awful on this food, no big deal, but never had that before. So, I really hope TOTW goes as well as TO has. I tried the samples, the ones on it loved it, pieces the right size, so looking forward to trying it for all of them next month, but would like to know how others are doing on this food before I start mine on it..

I'm actually up near Danville VA - sort of between Roxboro, NC and Danville.   Leggett's in Danville is going after the premium food niche since the new PetSmart opened.  It's a feed and tack shop.  They carry Diamond but not TOTW yet - but the owner has been getting whatever I want in lines he carries (NV, Wellness, Fromm's, I forget what else).

Before that I was shopping at Pet Supplies Plus in Winston-Salem, because it's not far from where my husband works (he goes into town a couple times a week).  Or, All Pets Considered in Greensboro because it's on the way home for my husband on those days he works.

It was all kind of a pain but better than dealing with shipping.  I'm just very glad for Leggett's shift in mission!

I have fed my two dogs Taste of the Wild now for about a month and a half and they still get a can between them of Natural Balance's Duck & Potatoes, also. The first couple of days their gas was horrific (thought I was going to need a gas mask!) and after those few days they don't have any problems with it. Oh, yeah, they also have solid bowel movements.

I have my dogs on Taste of the wild pacific salmon and they are doing wonderful on it! They were on the TWO ocean blue before this but when I saw that the ingredients of this were comparable to TWO and the price was so much better I decided to give this a shot. One of my dog has horrible allergies and the other one has a very sensitive stomach. They both switched to this with no problems and their coats are beautiful. I think it is a wonderful food with a great price. I also wanted to add that another reason I liked it is that it doesn't have the outrageous protein like the other grain free's. Kibble has been consistent through all the bags that I have tried. They have been on the food for..at least 6 months I believe. I started it when the food first came out so however long ago that was. Their BM's have been perfect the entire time.

This is so good to hear. I have been wondering about this food since I saw it at my local Agway this weekend.

CORE did note agree with Lexi. She had gas for the first time in her life, and is back on Nature's Variety. I may try TOTW for her next bag.

Been feeding it for @ 1 month. Tyler was switched over to the salmon variety from Sensible Choice NB. Dry kibble is flat and round, about the size of a dime (well, at least a little smaller than what I had been feeding). A bit of gas the first few days but not the "killer farts" as my sister would say if it were horrible.

Consistent from bag to bag, at least for me. Smells strong when you open the bag so wear a gas mask or stand back. Tyler really loves it so I hope it works out. I can tell you he has bad allergies and they are better (less chewing, scratching but not a 'miracle cure';). Tyler has pancreas issues so we had to go hunting for a new food and this seemed the closest to what we could find that would not be "bad" for him. He gets fed 1 cup per feeding, 3 times a day and is a golden/irish cross. I have no idea how it will go long term but thought I would give you my input.

I get it at Pet Supplies Plus and the small bag is 9.50 I think the biggest bag (35lbs? or so) is around $40.00ish. Overall I am happy with the product and think it is pretty good, on par with other higher quality feeds.

I fed TOTW to my dogs for about a month.  Two of them had mucousy poop and they all had dry, dull coats.  The smell also made me gag.  Seems like a good food though, just didn't work for us.

I just ordered a 15 lbs. bag of the pacific stream smoked salmon or whatever it's called, on Petfooddirect.

This was AFTER  I called the company, then called a distributor line, THEN finally got a number to a local seller here, only to have the local seller tell me that I would have to purchase a case of the food in order for them to order it for me.

So...I STILL got it cheaper than buying Timberwolf.

I figure if she doesn't do well on it, then we'll give the food to my friend's mom's dog.  And then we'll know not to feed it to her.

I would have ordered a smaller bag, but you really cannot tell how a dog is going to react to a food by means of a 5 lbs. bag.

Maybe a little dog one could tell, but not with a 55 lbs. dog.

My two have been on TOTW for about two months now. Hektor has had problems with all foods other than California Natural Lanb and Rice and I was afraid he would just have to stay on that. Both have done great on TOTW and we have had no problems with gas or mushy poops. Poops are smaller and happen less often but no constipation. Both of their coats look well. Hektors had been somewhat course previosuly and is becoming more satiny with TOTW. I like the food alot but just wish they sold it in larger bags. The largest I can get is the 15lb one which does not last me very long.

They are eating the buffalo and venison formula

poultry TOW is off my list. Still have one dog with very soft poops, and there is some nasty smelling gas from two others, much worse than the CORE. I'll give the bison one a try, might be different. The protein level in the salmon is too low IMHO to even bother with.
