Yogurt

    Yogurt

I have been giving my girls plain yogurt every day for a while now.  They love it and I know it's good for them. About a week ago I started giving a probiotic powder supplement mixed into their food at each meal.  It's top quality that I get from my local holistic pet store.  Do I still need to give the yogurt every day???? I don't want to overdo it - if there is such a thing.

Yes you CAN overdo a probiotic.  It IS a bacteria -- 'good' bacteria, yes, but BACTERIA.  So you don't want to overdo.  I usually would give a relatively healthy dog maybe half a child's dose of CHILDREN's probtioc.  But then that's a rule made to be broken -- Billy's on a big probiotic now cos he's taking TWO antibiotics, so he's taking two Gr8-dopholus by NOW...

You might want to alternate weeks yogurt/probiotic.

Thanks Callie!  I have the girls on Angels Eyes and it is working great, which is one of the reasons I wanted to step up the probiotic in their diet.  I don't intend to keep them on the Angels Eyes forever.....only until we've reached our goal of removing the tear stains and then we'll see how it goes.  On the days I give yogurt I won't give the powdered probiotics, maybe that will work.  How can you tell if they are getting too much probiotics???? Is it possible to tell? I'm guessing their stool?
