    Chicken 5 for $20

Well I went to Houchens (or now called IGA) today and saw where they had buy 5 meats for 20 bucks. Their chicken legs they had on this 5 for 20 had about 10 legs in them. I'm gonna buy 10 packages, freeze them, and start giving Lillie one leg a day!! She's gonna be in heaven. Plus it'll give her something to chew on for a good 30 minutes to an hour since she is a slow eater. Now they also had hamburger meat for the same deal. Is that good to give her as an extra to her kibble?

Once in a while for treats, sure, but as a general thing no it's not very good. Because it's pure meat, with no bone, it messes up the calcium/phosphorous/etc. balance. No worries if it's only an occasional thing, but if it makes up more than 30% of her diet it could be pretty bad for her.

AN HOUR!!!!  Are you kidding me?  my dogs go through a leg in a little under 2 minutes.  My little one included.  And thats frozen.  An hour!  Wow!

I do feed a bit of hamburger, but mostly its for when my dogs are getting too much calcium and I need to up the muscle meat in their diets or when they plain just need a few extra calories.  I mix it in with kibble and then leave it sit for a few minutes before it give it to them.  That way the kibble has time to soak up some of the beef juice and they cant resist it.  My dogs will frequently cut themselves off when they feel they have had enough, but if I know its going to be a particularly cold night I like to get some extra calories into them in the evening.   It really makes a difference in their mornings.

Lillie is a very slow eater. She also likes to lick and nibble the meat off of the bone first. I gave her a tbone steak(frozen with the meat on it) the other day and it took her forever to eat it. I had given Cheyanne and Jayde a tbone steak each and Jayde had finished hers before Lillie or Cheyanne had. But Cheyanne wasnt very hungry in the first place other wise she would have gobbled it down.Plus Jayde is teething so I think that helped her gums out. My friend had someone give them to her from a freshly slaughtered cow and she wouldnt eat them so she gave them to me. I had them frozen for about a week before I let the girls have them.
