Freezing deer meat

    Freezing deer meat

Ben's co-worker went hunting and gave us the deer heart and liver (and he has another heart for us, too).

Does deer meat REALLY need to be frozen for a certain amount of time before it can be fed?

This stuff has been frozen for about 2 weeks now.

If it does need to be frozen for a certain amount of time, can someone please remind me as to why?

    Thanks!

and I mean, fed to Ella, btw.

We aren't going to eat the heart and liver.

I am not sure about the length of time, I believe it is around 30 days but have heard as little as 48 hours (wouldn't trust it) --- but deer meat (game in general) should be frozen because of parasites like sarcocystis, trich, and some taenia species, which can be present in muscle tissue.

thanks.  I knew it had something to do with parasites, but I wasn't sure exactly WHAT parasites.

I'll freeze it for a month, then.
