Hi, I have a "no chicken" dog too! I can get his food locally, thankfully, and in fact just found a feed store just a few minutes from here where they will order his food right there (I was going about an hour away, that's "local" for me!).
Don't forget to figure out the actual cost of feeding when you compare the prices of the different foods. So let's say you are shipping a food that costs $2 a pound with shipping, and ship 20 pounds (just to make the math easy). $40 for Food A. Food B costs $3.00 a pound with shipping, and you get 20 pounds. $60 for Food B. No contest, right? But wait. Food A is 300 kcal per cup, while Food B is almost 500.
You actually have to translate the figures to kilograms to get the real story. But you can eyeball that and see that you are getting very close to the same bang for your shipping buck - if not even more! - from some of the higher priced, grain frees like Nature's Variety Instinct (Turkey and Duck), Orijen Fresh Fish, Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, and EVO Red Meat (no chicken in that).
K9cuisine.com has free shipping on orders over $50, which is easy to do if you order food like Orijen, lol.
Hold the presses, folks! I just looked over there and they are having a giganto sale on NV cans!! Oh, please God, please let the sale run until Thursday night when I get paid!!!
Anyway, you might want to check over there - there's several foods that are on sale, also - including TW. And some nice all-natural treats, yay! It's so hard to find stuff for my allergy dog, so I feel your pain.
