Talk to my vet and got a big Negative on what IM feeding my dogs.....

I'm sure you know that ground meat harbors more bacteria than whole meat, so feeding whole hunks is more safe than feeding something like NV medallions (not saying that NV is bad, because it's *great*, but ground is statistically higher in bacteria than whole meat).

I agree, though, that it sounds like something from the groomer's dog. How inconsiderate of her to keep her dog in contact with yours! I'd definitely cook their food, at least til their tummies settle down. Does pumpkin work for your bunch? Maybe a bit of baked sweet potato?

Im doing pumpkin :) AS for my groomer I agree she should have put her dog back in a different area.... I love my groomer she is fabulous but geese.....  All seems good with the Zoey and IM going to cook the raw NV and add it to their kibble.... For now cause IM tired of worrying about what is right and wrong as far as raw meat..... It makes me crazy and that is why I quit doing it years back.... I guess Iv never been completely comfortable with it like some are and that keeps me from making any kind of argument with my vets.

oh, that's clearly not diet then, just caught a bug from the other dog. Do the bland diet for a few days then back to raw. Maybe consider a new vet? what a ridiculous diagnosis if you've fed raw for over a year with no problems.

The truth is, Like someone else said, most vets get little to no training on dog nutrition. In alot of cases, if they DO get anything, it's sponsored by certain food companies (surprise, Science Diet!) so that's pretty much all they'll reccomend.  Many, many vets don't know any more about nutrition than the average guy on the street. Vets who DO know about nutrition sat down and researched it on their own, just like we all did- they probably didn't learn it in vet school.

Personally, I wouldn't stress over it.

I have found that this is very true. My old vet used to praise Iams and Science Diet foods to the hills both for my cats and my dog. He also praised me to the hills for feeding nothing but dry kibble because -- wait for it -- it's better for their teeth. So I thought for many, many years that I was doing a great thing. Then I started joining forums and found out that I was misled. I still feed primarily kibble (Natural Balance for the dog and Nutro for the cats) but I like to give the dog some chicken or turkey with her dinner and I feed Nutro wet to the cats (gasp!!!) a few times per week too. And you know what? Their teeth haven't fallen out and they actually look healthier than they did before I made the switch. New vet was amazed that I feed Natural Balance -- said quality of food doesn't get much higher than that. lol. Nice to hear considering I was bracing myself to hear "No, feed Eukanuba" since that's what is sold in their clinic.

I just talked to my vet about Zoey cause she is still having a few problems with her stool being runny but the Metronidzole was out of date by 2 years so Im thinking it lost it kick .. And she said it definately can...... When I called her Wed about it she didn't realize it was that out of date cause I told her within a day the dogs usually bounce back quick and they haven't on this.....

Anyway.................... She asked what I was feeding and I told her Nature Variety raw and she is so against me feeding the dogs raw because of bacteria.......PERIOD ... Bacteria..........................

Funny you brought this up. I feed approx 80 - 90% raw and supplement the diet with kibble. Lately, I've been very concerned about the bacteria content in some raw foods, mainly becuase I seem to be having problems w/ ground beef. Even if I cook it thoroughly, drain the fat, it's been giving the dogs the runs for the past few weeks. There have been several e-coli in ground beef scares in my area lately, and I'm wondering if that could possibly be causing the issue. However, last week, the dogs came down with a bad case of diarrhea, worse than a normal episode of loose stools, and no beef involved - it's also passing around from dog to dog. They're progressing very, very slowly and my oldest bitch is having quite a hard time with it. I'm very worried about her :( I have them on amoxicillin, and not seeing as much progress as should be expected. Then I've had an ongoing problem with conjunctivitis in one of my dogs, and the antibiotics are not knocking it out the way they should. One of those things that make one think. There have been other incidences that make me question whether or not the need I've had for antibiotics/amoxicillin has been excessive.
I'd be interested in hearing how things progress w/ your dog, if the diarrhea clears up on the metrondizole, or if it clears up on diet change.

Is that the only raw food you feed them, duck?  Maybe it's just duck.   There are so many people out there who do the raw diet, and I've read alot of posts about it, and I can't say I recall anything like this.  It may have been a bad duck.  Who knows for sure, I guess.  But I am curious, if you feed them anything else raw (you may have already posted it, and I didn't read it, sorry if that's the fact), but I wish your doggies good health!

I cook Trudy's meat and veggies. Just see if that works better.

Metrondizole always clears  my dogs poops up fast but this time with Zoey it was really weird but I will add my Metro was out of date what I had around here by 2 years so my Vet resupplied me with fresh... She is acting just fine and I have her back on NV chicken raw cause the little fart doesn't like it cooked. ...Im adding probotics to it but when she poops it firm but it has a bit of yellow to it and wet around the harder stool... Does that make since?? If shes got a little on her bottom and I  go to wipe off what is left on her bottom its bile yellow. So what does this mean??

Zoey hates kibble.... she doesn't like the raw cooked ... She just has always been my raw eating dog. We had no problems till she came in contact with my groomers dog.

As for the duck question above that is always cooked.... I grated it and top it on some of there food cause they like it so much.

IF your dogs were having bad diarrhea I would have gone straight to the metrondizole before any other antiboitics.....Iv had my vet put that in combo with amoxicillin if there is a large amount of clostridium in the poop.

When I took Zoeys in to be tested it was free of everything but yet her poops still aren't hard a firm and good in color yet?? I don't get it....

The yellow coating sounds like mucous, which means that her GI tract is irritated. For Emma, that means she's eaten something that she doesn't tolerate well.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah, I'm with Jennie.  That's what Willow gets mucous and yellowish whenever she has something she doesn't tolerate well.  If she gets chicken or eggs it's like that only not at all solid.

    • Gold Top Dog

Emma has pooped mucous-coated poop (ah, those were the days) all the way up to a pile of mucous, streaked with blood, with no noticeable food in it (more like what I see if she gets something now, like at the dog show, when the Great Bait guy told me it was JUST beef liver and garlic.... and failed to mention the freaking WHEAT FLOUR today). It's definitely a sign of an irritant of some sort, at least in her case.

    • Gold Top Dog

I know Mucus.. this isn't Mucus at all... Its a nasty yellow bile color stool..... It was bad today on our last walk..... I was SHOCKED to say the least.

what Iv decided to do W/D and Zoey has been on Raw for almost a year now ..... Listen don't fall over but .I think the W/D will turn her around and then I can try something else but Im thinking NO More raw....When I had troubles in the past this is what he Vetted wanted them on to turn them around was W/D... I know the drill I just have to stick to it no matter how much of a hunger strikes Zoey goes on....

I simply can't let this continue... I need to keep her on a high fiber diet for awhile and then later I will go with a better food but for now this is the only thing I can do to get her balanced out for awhile..... My gut is telling me to do this ....................

Again its Not mucus.... So what is the yellow color about????

So what is the yellow color about????

    Just a wild guess,but when i see yellow i think of jaundice/Liver.

I completely understand your stance on the W/D and know you just want to get your babe better, but if she wont eat it,or enough of it,then will it really do any good?

Have you tried contacting someone like monica Segal who could design an appropriate diet for her? Have you tried a simple homecooked diet? Or what about making up a bland home made menu and mixing the W/D in with it?

That is what IM going to do.... I will call the vet tomorrow and ask about this color issue going on...... Its the same color as if your dog threw up bile.....

Zoey ate the W/D with some cooked chicken in it tonight.... I want to see if I can get her straightened around on this ....... I have no idea how we got to this point...... But Iv got to get it figured out.

Pancreatic issues, maybe? Does it smell "off"? I know, I know, but dog nerds notice poop, LOL.
