    Supplement for Itchy Skin/Shedding

Both of my dogs (2 yo Boxer mix and 3 yo English Bulldog) are eating Eagle Pack Duck and Oatmeal formula.  It has helped their coats and digestive systems tremendously.  No more loose stools, coats are shiny.  Our vet had the bulldog on benedryl (1 tablet twice a day) for her "bad" skin.  She was in pretty rough shape when we got her 2 months ago.  The pink has gone away and she is no longer flakey.  So I've stopped the benedryl.  But since we've turned the heat on in the house, both dogs are beginning to itch and shed quite a bit more, especially the bulldog.  She's shedding quite a bit.  Is there a good coat/skin supplement that is easy to find that I can use to help them out?  Does flax help?  I only ask because I feed Omega Horseshine to my horse and wondered if it would be ok to feed the dogs too?  Thanks in advance.

Yes, flaxseed will help and yes, you can *technically* feed Omega Horseshine to a dog, but an animal-based Omega 3 supplement like Fish Oil will be better.  The horse coat supplements tend to me more plant-based.   Many vets sell DermCaps or 3V caps which are very good (if getting them from a vet would be easier for you).

I give my cairn a vitamin e capsule in the morn and a fish oil capsule in the evening.  He does not get the winter dry skin itchies any more.

Oliver has had problem skin since I got him at three months old.  The best fish oil I've tried is Icelandic Salmon Oil from Only Natural Pet.  I like it because it comes with a pump (easy to measure the dose and less messy) and they ensure that virtually all heavy metals are removed (to a European standard and tested by third party labs).
