If I wanted to start competing in agility.....

In my beginner class its all about the flatwork/handling. After four classes we still haven't jump but handling the dog around the pole, we're still working on 2o2o and just started the introduction to the weaves and barrel. The only obstacle were using a lot seems to be the tunnel.

My trainer believes in keeping the dogs healthy. She also said for competitiion (AKC) unless you really want to go for your MACH title just to show preferred. It is easier on the dog. That will probably be what I do with Belle. I don't think I will ever worry about titling.

Yes, being careful with our dogs and teaching them good form is important.  But once you get in the ring, the ribbons and titles are fun. :D  In USDAA and CPE you get ribbons for placing even if you don't Q.  Not sure about AKC or not.  I have tons of ribbons, but only a few Q's because of this.  Plus Kota is small and there are few small dogs around here that run in USDAA.

If you can keep the "titles don't matter" attitude, you guys will have a blast!  It really is important for our dogs that we always remember that.  To them it's a game they play with us and that's all they should ever know!
