Just want to say your dog is beautiful, that fur is so shiney.  I've always liked SolidGold and her other products as well. That's about the only food Maizy does well on with her allergies.

Your dal/lab mix sounds so much like Maizy(our dal).  Dals LOVE going anywhere you go,they LOVE riding in cars, she goes everywhere I go..

Being spayed absolutely doesn't make dogs fat. Eating too much and not exersizing enough makes them fat.  Thyroid problems can make them fat, as well, but not being spayed. Both of my dogs are spayed, and both are very lean. When I got Teenie, she was very, very fat. It took about a year to take off HALF of her body weight, and now she's in good condition. Em's never been fat, and has always been a hard keeper.

Is your mixed breed anywhere near as active as your Irish Setter? Because it sounds like even though she isn't taking in that many calories, she isn't burning them all. Exercise is the biggest factor.

Other people here may disagree with me, but I do think your girl could stand to gain just a very few pounds. And I do mean a few because to me she looks only slightly underweight. I don't think you should be able to see her hip bones so easily. And I still can't stop staring at her shiny coat!!!!

Did anyone here already suggest the Satin Balls? Those are IT for putting on weight. If not let me know and I or someone else can post the recipe.

I take all 4 dogs on a 4 mile run everyday(me on a bike).2 miles leaving home and 2 miles back home.Even the chihuahua goes with me but she rides in the bike seat that my 2 year old sits in.She has it easy lol.

My dalmation lab mix is a calm dog.But she is more than happy to go running. She's just has a little extra meat on her ribs.

That's so cute that your Chihuahua rides in a basket. :) It seems like the differences in energy level can have a big impact on how many calories are burned. Since your Dalmatian/Lab mix is calm I think she probably burns less calories than a more high energy dog that is milling around a lot of the time. I could be wrong though and maybe she just has a slower metabolism.

Completely agree!  Satin Balls are a wonderful supplement for putting on some extra weight.  Not saying Lilly needs it though.  Satin Balls are full of good carbohydrates mixed in with ground beef.

I tried Satin Balls. She ate them for about 2 weeks and could have cared less for any more. I only gave her a meat ball sized one once a day.

Evo works really well with Neiko and Abbie who have super high metabolisms. However, with 4 dogs eating Evo, it is very expensive. If you are worried about money, try something like Diamond performance athlete. It's cheap, not the greatest ingredients but about equal to One. However, it is good for dogs that can't keep the weight on.

Money isnt a problem. I will have to order it over the net. No place around me sells Evo. Which Evo would you recommend? I would only be feeding it to Lillie. So far Joker is doing fine on TOTW.

I feed both the chicken/turkey and the red meat versions. The white meat version seems to go over a tad better but honestly I don't know if there is much of a difference. I just buy whatever when we need a new bag.

You could also add puppy food to your dogs diet btw.

This thread is over a year old.  Are you still having trouble with Lillie?  You know what I'd recommend at this point!  She's now two years' old, right?  at this point we aren't talking about a really young dog, or a puppy whose joints we need to consider.  But, agreed, if you haven't had any luck with what you have available, try looking online.  I've heard a lot of picky eaters have liked Orijen. Probably the Evo Red Meat would be best for a picky eater.  Gosh, I've forgotten already which kibbles are the power kibbles.

Well, I just have to say it.  Picky eaters do wonderfully on homecooked.  If you don't have time, and money is no object, consider Honest Kitchen or Sojos.  I recommend adding an egg and meat to them for a young sporting dog.

Good luck!  You tell that Lillie she's just being a drama queen!

Yep still having trouble with Lillie. She will be 2 on the 11th. JJ would die if he knew I was cooking for the dog. Right now I have just been experimenting with adding a little raw meat and bone to her diet. Plus Im gonna get her spayed and hope that helps.
