    New Older Dog

    Hello everyone!
I just got a 3 year old siberian husky! hes so Handsome! white and has blue eyes
My problem though is that he doesnt listen to me ive only had him for 3 days but I want to start training him
His previous owner just tied him to a picnic table outside..The only command he knows is sit and he only does it for a treat and thats not always he only does it if he really wants the treat...

I would like if someone could post sites with online vidoes that show you how to train you dog & advice would be nice too! Im going to have to have a lot of patience with this one....[sm=no no smiley.gif] hes naughty naught naughty
    Thanks! [:)]

He does not listen to you as you have to prove to him you are the alpha ie: his boss. They are strong headed not as much as a Mal but it will take a while. If this is your first experience with Northern breeds you may want to do a searh for this breed and you will find heaps of info on training these types of dogs.

[link>http://www.wildpaw.com/forum/index.php?http://www.wildpaw.com/forum/]http://www.wildpaw.com is a good site, although steered more towards Mals alot of owners also have Sibs, it would be a good place to start and you will be able to find out alot more sites from there.

Hi, I strongly advise enrolling in an obedience class with your dog.  Not only will it be a great chance for him to meet other dogs, but you'll also be taught how to train your dog by a professional trainer.

Earning respect from an older dog takes a lot of patience and hard work.  I've found that it's the little things you do that builds up and eventually shows the dog that you're the boss.  For example, make sure he's on a tight feeding schedule, and you're the one who gives him the food and has the ability to take it away.  For me, I only give my dogs 15 minutes max to eat their food.  If they dont, then they'd have to wait till the next meal.

Also when you walk, train your dog to heel, so he's walking behind and beside you.  In a pack, the alpha always walks in the front, and the rest of the pack follows.  You have to establish that you're the alpha, so he has to follow where you go.

It's normal for dogs to only respond to treats at first when you're training.  Make sure you find a treat that he REALLY likes.  I make my own chicken liver treats.  You can find the recipe here on idog under the recipes forum.  You can slowly wein your dog off of treats by using verbal praise and giving the treat after 2 or 3 commands.  You can also use a toy if your dog has a favorite toy.  Mine loves to play fetch, so I always mix some commands into our play time inbetween throws.

    Hi,
Enrolling in a positive reinforcement obedience class would be a great idea.
Personally, i'm a big fan of clicker training and you can check out this website: [linkhttp://www.clickertrainusa.com]www.clickertrainusa.com[/link] that has many videos that demonstrate how to clickertrain your dog. (go to the training videos section)

    Good luck,
